AT&T Continues Its Niche Hardware Streak With The ASUS PadFone X Mini, Coming October 24th For $200 Prepaid

Some Americans waited literally years for the weird and wonderful PadFone series to show up on a local carrier... and were finally unsurprised to see AT&T be the only one to bite. (Seriously, between all that Amazon and HTC hardware, AT&T seems like the only American carrier willing to take a little risk.) Now AT&T and ASUS are teaming up again for the slightly smaller version of the phone-tablet docking concept, the PadFone X Mini.

Asus has announced the immediate availability of fresh firmware for both devices.

XDA Developer Finds A Way To Enable Screen Casting On Most Rooted Devices

Right now, the ability to cast your Android device's screen to Chromecast is limited to a very small number of devices – mostly the newest Nexus devices and a couple of popular modern handsets like the Galaxy S5 and HTC One. That leaves a lot of users out in the cold who may want to check out the service.

Of the Big Four American carriers, AT&T has the best selection of Android tablets available... which, admittedly, isn't saying much. The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 and the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 will be available on the carrier starting this Friday, June 6th.

People seem to kind of like the Asus Transformer series with the optional keyboard docks – it kind of makes sense in a limited way. Google Patents A Laptop With A Built-In Smartphone, Let The Chromebook And Android Speculation Begin

Asus has lately become the king of anime-style transforming electronics, with their Transformer tablet line and Padfone devices. It looks like Google is paying attention, at least when it comes to conceptual hardware. US patent 8,649,821, granted to Google in February of this year, describes a laptop with a built-in and detachable cell phone, with the two working in tandem for various functions. While Android and Chromebooks aren't specifically mentioned in the patent documentation, it's easy to assume they were on the engineers' minds, since it was filed in September of 2012.

Have you ever happened upon an attractive, dog-having single person in your local park and attempted to strike up a conversation about the fact that you, too, have a Canis domesticus and a picture of said animal that you would like to show this attractive dog-having person, only to be rejected because your phone's small display does not adequately represent your canine companion's intense cuteness? Good news! AT&T will soon be stocking the Asus PadFone X, a Certified Dog Photo Presenting Device (CDPPD) that will ensure the only reason you'll ever be shot down is for any other reason aside from not having a big enough screen to show someone a picture of your dog on.
