The community behind LineageOS, the successor to the ill-fated CyanogenMod ROM, continues to impress. New devices are constantly being added to the build roster, and we're even seeing new software features crop up, like custom Quick Settings tiles. Now the project has started supporting nine additional devices. Read More
It's not often that I get to fit the entire changelog of a software update in the headline, but today's the day. Verizon has shared details about an upcoming update for the Galaxy Note 3 that does two things - strengthens connectivity and improves sound quality. Though Verizon hasn't provided a proper software version number, the build hitting devices is apparently VRUBMJ7. Read More
Earlier this week, Samsung officially started the rollout of the Galaxy Note 3's update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Appearing first for those in Poland through KIES, the update matched what had been leaked shortly before the rollout began.
Just a few days later, Samsung has uploaded the official kernel source files to its Open Source Release Center.
Interestingly, the manufacturer told developer Chainfire just yesterday "we only publish open source code of official version," responding to a request for access to the files. This response was slightly odd considering the official rollout actually began Monday. Nonetheless, interested developers are now free to inspect and tinker with the fresh code after downloading it from the link below. Read More
We've heard rumor after rumor of Samsung's virtual reality headset in recent weeks, and according to the Verge the manufacturer is (as previous rumors suggested) set to unveil the device (codenamed Project Moonlight) at its upcoming Unpacked event in Berlin and New York, where Samsung is also expected to announce the Galaxy Note 4. What's more, the Verge has what appears to be a photo of the headset, next to a Samsung phone and Bluetooth controller.
The image seems to show a focus dial and ample lenses, as well as a front panel that would hold a phone, falling in line with previous rumors. Read More
The Galaxy Note 3 just launched today and already you can have one for your very own, as long as you don't mind paying out the nose for an unlocked unit. The 32GB Galaxy Note 3 (GT-N9000) is up for sale at $749, which is the cheapest you can get right now.
The US carrier versions of the Note 3 will be going on sale in the coming days, but this one can be used on most GSM networks. However, it looks like 3G support will only happen on AT&T in the USA. It has HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 bands and it won't work on LTE. Read More
We'll probably get our first official glimpse of the Note10 at Samsung's event next week, but in the meantime, images of another new color have appeared online, courtesy of the folks at WinFuture. A pink version of the phone should be coming to complement the existing black and opalescent/multi-colored leaks, though it may not come to all markets. Read More
Good news, Sprint customers: you now get a free year of Amazon Prime! Maybe. If you activate a "qualifying" Samsung phone for a new line of service or a renewed line, Sprint will foot the bill for Amazon's premium shipping option for a year. The promotion starts today, and those qualifying phones are limited to the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and the Galaxy Note 5. So basically it's just for Samsung's 2015 flagship quadruplets - you can't just run out and buy an ancient Galaxy S II for ten bucks and get $100 worth of freebies.
The offer runs through November 30th, and it's valid for Sprint customers who buy their phone outright, lease it, pay in installments, or use an old-fashioned two-year contract. Read More
Update: Motorola posted the following tweet earlier today, which indicates that the engraving feature is coming soon to Moto Maker. The custom engraving option was removed shortly before the device launch after being heavily promoted.
We've known since launch that the Moto Maker customization tool for the Moto X wouldn't be an AT&T exclusive forever, and it looks like that period is just about to expire. Droid Life spotted this placeholder page on Verizon's web store, which indicates that more colorful, customized versions of Motorola's new flagship will be coming to Verizon soon. Read More
The Galaxy Note 3 has a massive screen, plenty of battery life, and a ton of power. Unfortunately, it also has matching price tag. This has left the device inaccessible to some who would gladly wield it. Word on the street has mentioned a more affordable "Lite" version that would alleviate this problem, and now GSM Arena has gotten its hands on leaked spec sheets that give this device a name, the Galaxy Note 3 Neo.
The pages reveal a device that is somewhere between the Note 2 and the Note 3. The Neo will allegedly have an 8MP camera, 3100mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal memory, all specs that put it in line with the former handset. Read More
The Gear Fit has its share of problems, but it's still easily the best of Samsung's wearable watch-style devices so far. And one of the best reasons for picking one up over the larger and technically more capable Gear 2 models is the lower price. Now Amazon has given Samsung smartphone owners even more reason to lay their money down: a considerable discount on the Gear Fit.
Right now Amazon's price on the Gear Fit is $168.84, just a tad over $30 off the $200 retail price. This doesn't appear to be a sale or promotion (though it could be for Father's Day Weekend), so we'll assume for the moment that Amazon has simply lowered its price. Read More
