Seagate Updates Its Wireless Media Storage Android App With Ability To Stream To Chromecast, LG TV, And Roku

Seagate Updates Its Wireless Media Storage Android App With Ability To Stream To Chromecast, LG TV, And Roku

Seagate has a dedicated Android app for accessing music, photos, videos, and other files stored on one of its wireless drives. The latest version of said app adds the ability to stream things to Chromecast, LG TV, and Roku devices. This way you can get files from one thing onto a different thing using another thing entirely. Welcome to the future. Again.

Since the future is starting to look familiar now, you already know what to expect here. A Chromecast icon will appear when viewing media that is cast-able.

SG1 SG2 SG3

SG4

There are some caveats. LG TV and Roku support requires "newer devices," presumably meaning that older LG and Roku models aren't supported.

LG Teases The Upcoming G Pad 8.3, Their First Tablet In Over Two Years, In YouTube Video

LG Teases The Upcoming G Pad 8.3, Their First Tablet In Over Two Years, In YouTube Video

So it's been a while since LG made a tablet. They aren't the only ones that have been skittish in a market dominated by the iPad and the low-margin Kindle Fire (I don't see Motorola or HTC rushing to make anything new). But as an in-country rival to Samsung, LG's absence has been felt more than others. It looks like the company intends to make a return with the G Pad 8.3, a sequel to the original Optimus Pad.

The teaser video shows a bunch of real people who are not actors describing what's wrong with current tablets and what their perfect tablet would look like.

[Exclusive] How To Root The Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Elite

[Exclusive] How To Root The Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Elite

While we were able to test this process on the Virgin Mobile variant, it has not been tested on the Sprint version. It's not advised that you even attempt this on the Sprint variant until we've been able to test it first.

We are not responsible for any destruction of data, phones, or small animals. Use these instructions at your own risk.

This is not a simple root, and is very involved. Risks do come with it. Please read this post in its entirety before attempting. It requires flashing of a specially built firmware, along with the one time use of a root script.

LG's Entire Android Lineup Captured On Film Ahead Of MWC

LG's Entire Android Lineup Captured On Film Ahead Of MWC

MWC is still a few days away, and we're already starting to get some pretty great information on the devices that will shape the mobile electronics world in 2012.

Adding to the list of pre-MWC news items, the Italian blog Telefonino.net has posted a series of videos and photos, showcasing LG's complete Android lineup for 2012, from the LG Optimus 4X HD (which we mentioned yesterday) to the Optimus 3D MAX, to the Optimus LTE. Overall it's looking like LG is ready to introduce a bevy of impressively-spec'd handsets next week. It's worth mentioning ahead of time that the videos below are in Italian, but the hands-on demonstrations are worth watching anyway.

Droid X2 Joins The LG Revolution and Sony Xperia PLAY For A May 26 Launch - Sans Gingerbread

Droid X2 Joins The LG Revolution and Sony Xperia PLAY For A May 26 Launch - Sans Gingerbread

Official word just came out of VZW's camp that the Droid X2 will indeed be hitting the streets on the previously rumored launch date of May 26. The arrival of the X2 puts the total number of new VZW phones to hit on that same day at three (what's up with phones dropping in threes these days?) alongside the LG Revolution and Sony Xperia PLAY, so anyone looking to pick up a new handset will have somewhat of a choice to make.

Shadow_Front_4, 4/16/10, 1:55 PM, 8C, 5088x2704 (480+2768), 100%, bent 6 adjuste, 1/20 s, R57.9, G42.0, B69.7

The X2 packs a pretty powerful punch over its predecessor:

  • 4.3 inch qHD display
  • 1GHz dual-core processor (the full press release made no mention of  Tegra 2)
  • 8MP rear camera
  • HDMI Out
  • Enterprise grade security
  • Android 2.2 (to be upgraded to Android 2.3)

Did you catch that last bullet?

The big list of phones and tablets with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0

Fast charging can be a difficult topic to wrap your head around. There are a lot of competing standards, all with different cables and power adapters, but one of the most popular is Qualcomm's 'Quick Charge' technology. There are different versions with different charging speeds, but QC 2.0 and 3.0 are still common to find in today's phones and tablets.

Huawei is reviving smartphone leather backs with stitching

Huawei is reviving smartphone leather backs with stitching

One day bootleg pants are all the rage, the next it's considered a faux-pas to wear one and everyone moves to skinny leg pants. A couple of years later, bootleg pants are back in style and you feel like you understand nothing about nothing because you just threw yours in the trash. Just like clothing fashion, smartphone design goes through cycles. A few years ago, the Note 3 started the trend of using faux-leather with stitching on the back and so followed the Note 3 Neo, Note 4, and Note Edge. Not to be outdone by it, LG carried on the torch with the LG G4 and its middle stripe stitch, but the style pretty much died with it.
