There are a lot of phones that don't come with microSD card slots these days, and it's not always feasible to plug stuff into the USB port. That's when the SanDisk Connect wireless flash drive comes in handy. This device is on sale via Amazon for $29.99, about $10 less than usual and half of the MSRP. That's better than most of the Prime Day "deals" from yesterday.
SanDisk has announced a new product in its Connect line of wireless storage devices, the Connect Wireless Stick. This appears to be the second generation version of the Connect Wireless Flash Drive, which has been around for about a year. This version is slimmer, has more storage, and relies on a new app.
Think back to this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Remember when HTC announced the Grip? It was an activity tracker that looked just like any other fitness band, particularly Microsoft's.
According to Engadget, the product was originally slated to launch in Spring, but now Summer is here, and HTC has decided not to release it at all. At least, not in the form we've seen. Read More
I've reviewed a lot of Bluetooth speakers over the past few years. So, so many speakers. In fact, I've even written about the best speakers that money can buy in a national magazine. I feel like, at this point, I have an excellent idea of what's out there, and what's good for the money. Historically, $99 has been my starting price point when recommending a good speaker, as I haven't really been impressed with anything below that price point.
So, when Inatech reached out to me about the MercuryBox, a compact, waterproof, $55 speaker, I had my reservations. But it's been a while since I've checked out anything in this price range, so I figured this would be a good unit to see how far more affordable speakers have come. Read More
The Plex app is getting a big update to v4.6 today, and with it comes yet another step in the app's material makeover. This update goes more than skin deep, though. There are improvements to functionality for Android TV, Chromecast, and the general app.
Sprint Spark Band 41 Carrier Aggregation is now active in over three dozen markets across the US. S4GRU broke down the news after a Sprint employee leaked an internal announcement onto Reddit. The blog, which exclusively covers Sprint 4G rollouts (yes, you can write about anything on the Internet), provides lists of the supported cities and devices.
Early test markets included Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, and Houston. Thirty-five more cities have joined in time for the initial launch.
Carrier Aggregation is the first step of implementing LTE Advanced, offering higher peak data rates and a better experience for everyone overall. Things get pretty technical, but here's more of a breakdown if you're curious. Read More
Aviary is one of the more popular photo editors on Android. In the past there were various effect packs available for purchase, but in the latest update Aviary has added a premium upgrade. It's a little strange, though. For $1.99 you get access to all the effects, filters, stickers, and so on, but only for 30 days.
At this year's Google I/O, we heard that HBO Now would eventually be available across all Android devices. Well, today appears to be that day. HBO appears set to drop Now into the Play Store. The company has listed Android as "coming later today" on its list of supported devices.
If you have one of Amazon's Fire tablets, your wait is already up. HBO Now is already available on the latest generation of slates, which includes the Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7. Support will also come to the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick in a few weeks. Read More
Late last week I took a look at Moov and its cycling app for Android. I had a few things to critique about the unit (which isn't unusual), like its inability to connect with external heart rate monitors. It appears that Moov was already working on something that would fix essentially everything I found "wrong" with the first one, because it just announced MOOV NOW, and it looks like it'll be better in basically every way. Here are just a few things it can do over the existing model:
Features and Benefits of MOOV NOW™:
- Customizable: MOOV NOW™ is available in Stealth Black, Blizzard White, Aqua Blue and Fusion Red colors.
Motorola has something to announce later this month, and it's teasing it in a bizarre fashion. According to the Moto blog, "a better mobile relationship is headed your way." Whatever romantic entanglement Motorola has planned, we'll find out on July 28th.
