An update to Google Play Music began rolling out earlier this week, but there aren't any signs of changes in the UI. However, a couple of interesting things did turn up during a teardown. We can look forward to new settings to control audio quality for each of the major situations for downloading music. Additionally, there will be an option to allow the app to begin playing music as soon as it launches. If you're eager to grab the latest version before it comes to your device naturally, there's a download link at the bottom. Read More
Apple has a switch tool in the Play Store that helps Android people switch to iOS. It's unlikely Google would get such an app approved by the Apple bots in the App Store. However, it's done a bit of an end-run around that with an update to the Drive app. You can now back up your iPhone data to Drive, then restore it all on Android. Read More
Back in April, we spotted a Gfycat app on the Play Store, but it was only available in some countries and seemed to still be in beta. Now that app is renamed to Gfycat Loops, has a new Play Store listing, and is officially released in many countries.
Gfycat Loops lets you satiate your desperate need for gifs. You can search GIFs and browse among more than 200 categories of memes and reactions, sign in with your account and manage your own GIFs, but the part you're most likely looking for is GIF creation.
With Loops, this happens either by directly recording something on the camera, converting an existing video, converting video links from any site, or recording your screen and turning it into a GIF. Read More

Hello! If you've arrived at this post, it may be because you're considering buying a Google Pixel and are wondering if it works on your wireless carrier. The good news is that there actually isn't much to know: every version of the Google Pixel sold in the United States is SIM unlocked and works on every major carrier, including Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. While most of us immediately associate LG with the poorly-built G5, the fairly decent V20, and bootloops (sorry, I had to), the Korean electronics company also produces quite a few budget and mid-range phones under the K-series, X-series, and Stylus/Stylo monikers. At CES in January, LG will reportedly debut six new devices that belong to these series, and another at February's MWC. Read More
We've been hearing about Google's self-driving car ambitions for years, but lately the company seems to have slowed a bit, while would-be competitors like Tesla and NVIDIA are nipping at its heels. To give its efforts a boost (or possibly just make the expense and organization more manageable), the formerly Google-branded self-driving car project is being spun off into a separate company under the Alphabet parent company. The new venture is called Waymo, as in "a new way forward in mobility." Read More
Pokémon GO players have been salivating at the notion of gen 2 monsters showing up in the game, but the holiday update isn't quite so grand. Okay, it's a lot less grand. There are a handful new Pokémon, which can only be hatched from eggs. Oh, and Pikachu has a new hat. Read More
