Android has overtaken Windows for the first time as the most popular OS in total internet usage across desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile combined

The research arm of StatCounter, an independent web analytics company, has revealed an interesting stat today: according to its numbers, Android has overtaken Windows for the first time in terms of worldwide total internet usage.

This bold statement comes with a lot of asterisks. We're talking about total internet usage here, not sales numbers or users. We're also looking at worldwide usage across all platforms combined (desktop, laptop, tablet, mobile). And even then, the difference is minimal at 37.93% for Android compared to 37.91% for Windows.

The distinction of platforms is important because if we were only looking at desktops, Windows would have an 84% usage share.

Shadowmatic

Android Police coverage: Shadowmatic is a gorgeous puzzle game of space and silhouettes

Shadowmatic took its sweet, sweet time coming to Android, but the game is so pretty I'm minded to forgive it. It's extremely simple: spin and tilt one or more 3D shapes floating in the air to get the shadow to form the shape desired.

Capcom plans to bring classic Ghosts N Goblins, Ghouls N Ghosts, Commando, and 1942 arcade games to Android

Capcom's big push to bring Mega Man titles to Android didn't go over very well. Neither did its first Android title, Apollo Justice, which came without the chapter-by-chapter pricing of the iOS version. But maybe the third time will be the charm. Today the game publisher announced its intention to re-release mobile versions of four of its classic arcade games: Ghosts N Goblins, Ghouls N Ghosts, 1942, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando. Unfortunately there are no dates or prices available at the moment.

Nintendo's first full Android game, Fire Emblem Heroes, is now rolling out to some countries in the Play Store

It's a big day for Nintendo fans: the company's first Android game is here. (So long as you don't count Miitomo... and since Nintendo seems kinda down on the Mii stuff lately, maybe you shouldn't.) Fire Emblem Heroes, a turn-based strategy game set in the long-running fantasy franchise, is now available on the Play Store in at least some countries. As of early this morning Pacific Time it hasn't dropped in the United States, but players in Japan, Australia, and Europe report that they're able to download it. If you can't wait for Nintendo's staggered rollout, the app is available on APK Mirror for a direct download.

Nintendo's next mobile game is tactical RPG Fire Emblem Heroes, coming to Android in February

Super Mario Run is still a no-show for Android (Nintendo said just today that it's aiming for a March release), but there's another classic franchise coming to the Play Store in just a couple of weeks. Fire Emblem Heroes, the first mobile entry in a long-running series of tactical strategy games, will arrive on Android on February 2nd. Like Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes adapts familiar elements of the franchise in new ways for mobile players.
