Samsung Announces The Galaxy Tab 4 Line In 7, 8, and 10.1-inch Varieties, All Packing KitKat And Mediocre Specs

Samsung Announces The Galaxy Tab 4 Line In 7, 8, and 10.1-inch Varieties, All Packing KitKat And Mediocre Specs

With the introduction of the Galaxy TabPRO series earlier this year, you might expect the older Galaxy Tab line to continue to occupy the lower end of the market. And you'd be right: the Galaxy Tab 4 (or, stylized, Tab4) devices roughly follow in the footsteps of the Tab 3 hardware with 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch varieties. And yes, they still have physical navigation buttons.

All three Tab4 models will be offered in WiFi, 3G, and LTE flavors, though the mobile versions probably won't make it to America any time soon. They also share a few common specs, including an identical 1.2Ghz quad-core processor, a 1280x800 screen for all three models (an improvement over the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0's 1024x600 screen), 1.5GB of RAM, 3MP rear cameras, MicroSD card slots, and Samsung's TouchWiz-touched version of Android 4.4.

Nokia brings back the Lumia's beloved Camera Pro to its Android devices

Nokia brings back the Lumia's beloved Camera Pro to its Android devices

Many moons ago, Nokia's Lumia (later Microsoft's Lumia) devices were lauded for one feature: the camera. The Carl Zeiss optics mixed with the beloved Nokia Camera / Lumia Camera / Nokia Pro Camera app (goodness knows how often the name changed) made for one powerful package that was still unparalleled in the Android world: in August of 2013, Pro Camera had manual focus and shutter speed when, for comparison, the Note 3 released one month later, had neither.

Testing Shows Samsung Has Disabled Its Benchmark-Boosting Tomfoolery In Android 4.4 Updates To S4 And Note 3

Testing Shows Samsung Has Disabled Its Benchmark-Boosting Tomfoolery In Android 4.4 Updates To S4 And Note 3

Update: Developer Wanam has confirmed on Twitter that the code responsible for the "boosting" behavior has been removed in the Android 4.4 ROMs for both the Note 3 and Galaxy S4.

Months after the Galaxy S4 was released last year, allegations began surfacing from Anandtech that Samsung was essentially "gaming" its devices' CPU and GPU benchmark scores by leaving cores at "full throttle" when such benchmarking applications were launched. This allowed Samsung to achieve marginally higher scores in such tests than its rivals, and gave the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 the appearance of being a little quicker than a typical benchmarking environment would otherwise show them to be.

CyanogenMod Source Code For The Galaxy Note 3 Posted - Nightlies Coming Soon

CyanogenMod Source Code For The Galaxy Note 3 Posted - Nightlies Coming Soon

All of the flagship Android devices from 2013 have been added to CyanogenMod in some form or another: the Galaxy S4, the HTC One, the LG G2, the Moto X, and of course, the Nexus 5. But there's one notable entry that has not graced the download page yet - Samsung's enormous and powerful Galaxy Note 3. According to an early-morning post from the custom ROM's official Google+ account, that's about to change.

github

The CM team has published its software source code for various models of the Note 3 to GitHub. The kernel and ROM code is up for the international model as well as the T-Mobile and Sprint variants, but the AT&T and Verizon versions are absent, almost certainly because of those carriers' insistence on locked bootloaders for all their phones.

ZeroLemon's Rugged Galaxy Note 3 Case With 10,000mAh Battery And NFC Is Finally Available For $59.99

ZeroLemon's Rugged Galaxy Note 3 Case With 10,000mAh Battery And NFC Is Finally Available For $59.99

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is already a great big phone, but the ZeroLemon battery case for the Note 3 is finally here to make it even bigger. This rugged case packs a humungous 10,000mAh battery with NFC support. It also makes the phone into kind of a hideous brick, but that's the price you pay for insane battery life.

The case should be compatible with all versions of the Note 3 with standard or extended batteries already installed. The case is thick, which blocks the NFC in the regular battery from working. However, this case has its own NFC chip to restore that functionality.

Android 4.4.2 Test Build Leaked For The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005

Android 4.4.2 Test Build Leaked For The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005

If you've got a Qualcomm-powered, international Galaxy Note 3 and an appreciation for up-to-date software, you might want to check out the latest official leaked ROM from SamMobile. They've posted a purported test build for the KitKat 4.4.2 update of the Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 (that's the Snapdragon 800 model with LTE bands). This leak comes just two days after the Android 4.4 build for the Galaxy S4.

Changes include all the usual KitKat goodies, plus a tweaked TouchWiz visual theme (with white battery, service, Wifi, clock, etc. icons), and a camera shortcut on the lockscreen. Benchmark scores are generally improved on the KitKat build, and of course users have access to the new experimental Android Runtime (ART).

Samsung Rolling Out Android 4.4.2 For The Galaxy Note 3 (N9005), Starting With Poland [Update: Changelog And Video]

Rarely does the first leaked firmware update for a flagship phone end up being exactly what rolls out to users, but that appears to be the case for the recently leaked KitKat ROM for the Note 3. Android 4.4.2 (N9005XXUENA6) is appearing in Poland through Kies right now, and the version number matches the leak from this weekend.

2014-01-13 07.59.06

Samsung made a few notable tweaks in KitKat for the Note 3, just like it did for the ROM for the Galaxy S4 leaked a few days earlier. The status bar icons are white now, and the camera shortcut on the lockscreen is similar to stock Android.
