damageless and TrevE, the developers behind the DamageControl ROM which brings Android 2.1 to Sprint HTC Hero CDMA, have been silently working on a new version of the ROM for the last few weeks.
Yesterday night, the world saw the newly updated ROM v2.08 finally go live with the following changelog:
- New DConfig tweaker tool
- Theme Server
- New beefed up apps2sd. If any errors are encountered post /data/dcboot.log
If you have not heard yet, Cyanogen and gang have finally released CyanogenMod 5 for your G1/Mytouch 3G. If you are new to using ROMs, make sure to follow the instructions carefully, so you don't brick your phone. Anyone who has used ROMs, whether Cyanogen’s or not, also needs to follow the instructions as you will need to install DangerSPL which has bricking potential (unless you already have it installed). You have to hand it to Verizon’s marketing department – out of all of the carriers pushing Android, their ads have been the most compelling.
Verizon continues their Android advertising legacy with a departure from the ‘Droid Does’ campaign in order to use the Iron Man 2 release to pimp their latest Android phone – the LG Ally. What’s that? You haven’t heard of the Ally? What about the LG Aloha? Read More
Utilizing SD cards for the storage of apps has undoubtedly been one of the biggest feature requests of Android since the G1 was released, with users being limited to the internal storage capacity of their devices to install applications on. Fortunately, Google have finally addressed the issue, and an update may not be too far away.
A post on Issue 1151 yesterday by a Google representative confirmed that the feature was ‘coming soon’ to Android devices, although no exact information was divulged at the time. Read More
What have we here: it looks like a user over at the ppcgeeks forums has nabbed himself a picture of an Evo 4G sitting pretty at a corporate Sprint store in Florida. Granted the picture is so blurry that it looks more like a Jackson Pollack painting than a spy-shot, but we’ll take what we can get.
Of course, with pictures like this, you always want to take things with a grain of salt - the blurrier the shot is, the easier it is to hide any digital alterations and in this case, there are plenty of reasons to doubt the veracity of this image:
- It’s low quality
- The forum poster has since removed it
- It was posted on a forum to begin with
- It was hanging out in a store, yet there’s not even a release date?
It was rumored for a long time that Twitter would be releasing an app for Android. Well the wait has ended as Twitter’s official app was finally released a few minutes ago and is available on the Android market right now for free.
While this is great news at first, there is a catch - it is only for Android 2.1 and above. Anyone with 2.0 or lower will have to stick with their current Twitter app and wait till 2.1 hits their phones (I'm looking at you, Hero users). Read More
The moment you, MyTouch 3G and G1 users, have been waiting for is here! Only minutes ago Cyanogen announced the availability of CyanogenMod 5.0.7 ROM (v. Test1) which brings Android 2.1 to MT3G and G1:
Full instructions and downloads for this first version (Test1) are available at this CyanogenMod forum post and are cached below (the forum is SLAMMED).
G1 users: note that you need "DangerSPL" (or DeathSPL or Haykuro's SPL or whatever you prefer) in order for this ROM to fit onto your phone. Read More
As promised earlier today, the HTC Legend rooting guide has been posted by PaulOBrien, the founder of MoDaCo.com.
Paul, who rooted the HTC Desire earlier this week, is on a roll!
Here are the current instructions (29/Apr r1) from Paul himself:
Read this whole topic - it contains a ton of useful information as well as the instructions and downloads!
Remember that if you use this guide, you do so entirely at your own risk!
Wow, what a day. First, Wirefly.com announced a special price that was cheaper than Verizon's or Best Buy's, and now Amazon.com one-upped them and is currently offering the HTC Droid Incredible at $99!
That's $100 cheaper than VZW.com (which is currently sold out) or Best Buy, and comes with a FREE 2-day shipping when purchased with a service plan.
Moreover, Amazon traditionally doesn't charge any tax in most states. We are not sure whether they do on the phones or not so if someone could clarify that in the comments, it would be great. Read More
Early Android adopters will soon be able to use Android 2.1 on the G1 and MyTouch 3G thanks to Cyanogen, with the release of CyanogenMod 5.0.7.
The latest version of the ROM should be available to users in no time at all, with a public beta arriving at some point today according to Cyanogen’s tweet:
Some compromises may need to be made to allow Android 2.1 to fit on the G1 and MyTouch 3G due to limited available space on the devices - in fact, this is what is causing the delay before the release is live. Read More
