OnePlus promises to stop killing apps in the background

OnePlus just published a recap of its second "Open Ears Forum" from all the way back in May. At the event, it gathered a handful of developers and fans central to the OnePlus community to solicit their feedback. Four months later, the company has revealed a set of changes influenced by that feedback, including more timely kernel sources for Open Betas and a new bounty program for reporting vulnerabilities. Most importantly for customers, though, OnePlus has promised to finally fix how aggressive its software is at killing apps in the background.

Xiaomi robotic vacuum cleaner turned into DJ Roomba 2.0

The spirit of DJ Roomba lives on in 2019. Although this one might not swear, enterprising developer Eddie Zhang has found a way to install an open-source Spotify client on his first-gen Xiaomi robotic vacuum cleaner. Thanks to the slightly garbage built-in speaker, an off-brand DJ Roomba 2.0 was born.

TWRP officially arrives on the ZenFone 6, Galaxy Tab S5e, and other devices

TWRP is a custom recovery partition that can be installed on hundreds of Android devices, allowing homebrew ROMs to be sideloaded, full system backups to be created, and much more. The LineageOS custom ROM is best known for its wide range of device support. In the past month alone, the project has added the Razer Phone, Zenfone 6, and other phones to the official roster. It seems a bit strange that they weren't already available, but ports for the OnePlus 6T and 7 Pro are now live.

Miss the Spotify widget? You can bring it back with Tasker and KWGT

Earlier this week, Spotify unceremoniously killed its Android widget, taking away home screen-based controls for the streaming service. Odds are that most of you didn't notice — or if you did, you probably didn't care too much since you can still use the ongoing notification's controls during playback — but for those that were upset at the loss, there's a workaround. Using Tasker and KWGT, you can re-create a convincing approximation of Spotify's lost widget.

LineageOS is one of the best custom ROMs around, with official support for dozens of phones and a few unique features.
