Team Win Recovery Project Gets The Material Design Treatment Thanks To XDA Developer's Downloadable Theme

The Team Win Recovery Project is a great custom recovery, but it isn't pretty. Back in the Ice Cream Sandwich days, it kind of blended in. Nowadays, it's just that outdated screen you largely don't care about while you flash .zips.

But what if TWRP could look just as sleek as the rest of Android 5.0? Thanks to the work of XDA developer z31s1g, it can get close. He has released a Materialized TWRP theme that changes the appearance of every screen, including when you're wiping partitions or running scripts. It comes in either a light or dark variant, and you can choose any of 15 colors.

Latest Chrome Beta Fixes The Floating Window Bug On Certain ROMs [APK Download]

It's not Google's job to account for all the quirks of custom ROMs, but there's been one pervasive bug that has driven some users up a wall in recent weeks. [APK Download] YouTube 5.18 Lays The Groundwork For Clip Trimming On Upload

While we weren't able to find anything else particularly interesting (note: Music Key is not linked to this update, previous versions had it, too), YouTube 5.18 does include some interesting strings referring to upload trimming. Specifically, these strings:

  <string name="android_youtube_upload_lib_name">AndroidYouTubeUploadLib</string>

<string name="video_trim_view_trim_time_regular">%1$02d:%2$02d</string>

<string name="video_trim_view_trim_time_zoomed">%1$02d:%2$02d.%3$03d</string>

<string name="upload_edit_video_tutorial_title">Trim your video</string>

<string name="upload_edit_video_tutorial_description">Drag the handles to trim.</string>

<string name="upload_edit_video_tutorial_zoom_description">Touch and hold to get a closer view.</string>

<string name="upload_edit_video_tutorial_got_it">Got it</string>

It looks like a new upload interface is on the way for YouTube's Android app, and it's probably about time - the current UI is pretty dated.

Google Play Music Starts Providing Shortcuts To Relevant YouTube Videos

Over the last few weeks, we've heard of a feature popping up for Google Play Music All Access users here and there (thanks for the tips!), whereby the app or web interface would link users to relevant music videos inside the app. When listening to or browsing music, the app would show a YouTube icon, sometimes in the center of the screen, sometimes weirdly positioned in the "now playing" bar. It was clear Google was still testing the feature but it looks like now, with the publication of an official change log for Play Music's latest update, Google may be flipping the switch on a wider basis.

Since Google Maps got its update to version 9.1 yesterday, we've been taking a closer look to figure out exactly what's new, and - of course - taking a quick look inside as well.

So far, it doesn't seem like a huge update, but there's at least one big change worth highlighting. In 9.1, Maps will provide helpful information about your destination or a location you look up. The app will give you the current weather and time at the given location, and will provide some fun facts too.

Google News & Weather App Updated To Version 2.1 With A Couple Of New Animations [APK Download]

There's not much that's new in News & Weather 2.1. This update is all about making the interface and animations consistent with other recently-Materialized apps. We've seen exactly three new things: one, the statusbar changes color to match the action bar on Lollipop, like an increasing number of Google apps. Two, the pull-to-refresh action uses the newfangled circular refresh animation instead of a horizontal bar. And three, the hamburger menu now animates into an arrow when the slide-out menu is activated.

Google Cloud Print Gets Its Own Material Makeover [APK Download]

Google Cloud Print has recently received a material redesign of its own. You would be forgiven for thinking that the printing service wasn't its own app, given how it's tucked away with your device's other settings. But when you do go to "add a printer," you are, in fact, kicked out to a different app.

It just doesn't look like it.

What's New

Cloud Print has gone Material. Everything's bright white, the sidebar slides out on top of the action bar, and the new color palette matches the settings menu in Android 5.0.
