System-level dictation is coming to Chrome OS as an accessibility feature

Lately, our dear leader Artem has been preaching the usefulness of Google Docs' dictation feature, which allows you to transform your speech into words. However, to use it, he's had to constantly have a Google Doc open. But according to a code change request, Chrome OS will soon have this functionality built into the system as an accessibility feature. (Too bad Artem doesn't often use a Chromebook.)

[Deal Alert] Samsung Chromebook Pro for $449 and Chromebook Plus for $349 ($100 off)

There aren't a lot of really great Chromebooks out there, but Samsung's recent Chromebook Pro and Plus come close. Excepting the keyboards, each is one of the best devices in its class to have come out in the last year. And, in what looks like some early Black Friday preparation, retailers such as Amazon, B&H, Frys, Best Buy, and even Samsung itself have marked down prices for each. Right now you can pick up the Chromebook Plus for just $349, and the Chromebook Pro for $449.

Chrome OS Canary channel now has keyboard shortcuts for moving windows between monitors

One of the most popular arguments against Chromebooks is a criticism against productivity. Many argue that the operating system precludes a reasonable workflow, and in some cases that's true. If you absolutely require specific applications, you're unarguably stuck on whatever platform those programs support. But if you can find sites or Android apps that can replace the tools you need, now juggling those windows in a multi-monitor workflow will be that much easier, as the current Canary channel now has support for keyboard shortcuts to move windows between monitors.

[Deal Alert] Acer's Chromebook 14 for Work drops to $390 ($210 off)

Acer has made a name for itself designing and selling good bang-for-your-buck Chromebooks. I came away rather impressed with the Chromebook 15 (2017) not too long ago, despite some shortcuts made to keep the price low. Moving on, though, we're seeing yet another sale on one of Acer's other models; the Chromebook 14 for Work (CP5-471-312N) has dropped to $389.99 on Acer's U.S. store, a savings of $210.

It has been a slow journey, but Google has been hard at work giving more Chromebooks access to Android app support. The Play Store arrived on 17 more Chromebooks last month, and now Google has added a few more to the growing list.

Google made a Chromebox for Hangouts video conferences

Back in March, Google split Hangouts into two separate apps - 'Meet' for video conferences, and 'Chat' for Slack-style company messaging. In a new blog post, Google revealed the 'Hangouts Meet hardware kit,' designed to get companies up and running with Hangouts Meet for their boardrooms or other meeting locations.

Acer Chromebook 15 (2017) review: Continuing to make a strong case for Chromebooks

Chromebooks compose an interesting product category and provide a new perspective on the question "What do I need my laptop to do?" While I've been a fan of Chrome OS and its accompanying hardware since its inception, I have not been able to convince myself to buy one in recent years. Part of this has been due to the fact that Chromebooks typically don't come in larger screen sizes.

Acer Chromebook 15, HP Chromebook 11 G5, and 15 others now fully support the Play Store

Earlier this year, Google announced that all Chromebooks shipped in 2017 and beyond would support the Play Store. Some models have shipped with the feature already enabled, while others took a few months after launch to get everything working. At the same time, Google has been working to backport the Play Store to older Chromebooks.
