- Another Canadian carrier, Telus, has listed Android Q as arriving September 3rd on all Pixel phones. Telus already replaced the descriptions with just "Security update," but the previous version can be seen below.
It's been a long road, getting from there to here. After six public betas and months of back-and-forth development, Android 10 (no dessert name!) is expected to be released any day now. According to a support page from Rogers, a Canadian cell carrier, the big day could be September 3rd.
Smartphone shoppers have lots of choices out there, and the increased accessibility of unlocked devices has made it easier for users to select their handsets and carriers independently. But while it's possible for an informed consumer to take that route, there's no denying the one-stop appeal of showing up at your carrier store and going home with a new phone. Manufacturers like OnePlus are definitely enjoying the sales bump that carrier partnerships can offer, and now HMD is looking to get in on this action, too, as it announces the availability of Nokia smartphones at North American carriers.
Securus Technologies is a Texas-based company, specializing in providing and monitoring calls to prison inmates. Securus came into the spotlight earlier this month, when a former Missouri sheriff was found using the company's service to repeatedly track people without a warrant. The New York Times reports that between 2014 and 2017, former sheriff Cory Hutcheson used the service at least 11 times, allegedly tracking a judge and members of the State Highway Patrol.

- Google has announced that the Really Blue Pixel and Pixel XL are now available to pre-order from Rogers. This limited edition color is only available in the 32GB versions. The smaller Pixel will run you $199 with the Pixel XL costing $349, both on a two-year Premium + Tab plan.
Google sells the Pixel and Pixel XL in three colors (with varying degrees of stock) - Very Silver, Quite Black, and Really Blue. When the Pixel was initially announced, Google said it would be a temporary US exclusive. Now the Really Blue Pixel is coming to Canada - but only sold through Rogers.
Rich Communications Services, the next-gen upgrade to standard texting and MMS on conventional carriers, might just be the quietest, subtlest trend in 2016. It's being adopted by a ton of mobile-focused tech companies, including Google, in the somewhat nebulous hope that systems more than a decade old can be either replaced or augmented with more capable tech. To that end Google is partnering with Canadian carrier Rogers, the first company to join the Jibe standard in the country.
As expected, both the 5-inch Pixel and the 5.5-inch Pixel XL are compatible out of the box with Project Fi, Google's MVNO (it would be news if they weren't). Google also announced just over a dozen of other international partners around the world.
Leaks often happen right up to the last minute when a big announcement is happening, and today is no exception. Canadian carrier Rogers has posted on Facebook that the Pixel and Pixel XL are launching on October 20th. That's Canada, but I'd wager on the US date being the same. Will you be able to survive a few more weeks?
Regular followers of HTC's customer relations will recognize Mo Versi, the company's vice president of product management. He often gives out helpful information on his personal Twitter account, explaining when notable updates are coming for HTC phones and even giving support answers one at a time to his followers. He's considered, in the somewhat insular circles of Android-focused tech blogging, a good dude. And yesterday he gave out some good news: the HTC One M9 Marshmallow update is scheduled to hit a handful of Canadian carriers on Monday.
The original Moto X signaled a major design shift for Motorola, and the company has done an admirable job keeping the device updated to the latest versions of Android so far. The Moto X 2013 is now seeing its first Android 5.1 updates, specifically for the unlocked retail models in the United States and Brazil plus the Rogers carrier version sold in Canada, according to Motorola manager David Schuster. This comes after a few weeks of soak tests.
Happy news, Canadian HTC One (M8) owners! If you were fidgeting in wait of that OTA update that would bring your device up to Android 4.4.4 and add all the cool (and weird) features of the Eye Experience, you should sit still and count the seconds until 9am, PST time today. That's when the update shall start flowing to those of you who bought an M8 through Rogers, TELUS, or Bell, as announced by Mo Versi, HTC's VP of Product Management.
Update: it looks like the floodgates have opened. A Facebook user showed full photos of the new One, including the back of a Verizon retail box confirming a Snapdragon 801 processor, MicroSD card slot, 2GB of RAM, and a nanoSIM tray.

Android 4.3 To Come To The HTC One Developer Edition This Week, Canadian HTC One Before End Of The Month
According to HTC Americas President Jason Mackenzie, a bunch of HTC One owners across North America will soon receive an update to Android 4.3. He just sent out the following tweet.
The Canadian Moto X on Rogers is the latest addition to Motorola's Bootloader Unlock program, a growing list that already includes the RAZR HD in Canada and American devices such as the Photon Q 4G LTE on Sprint and the developer edition of the Droid RAZR M on Verizon, among others. No American versions of the Moto X have made the list yet, but Motorola says that support is coming for devices on US Cellular, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
The Moto X will be available from all of the major American carriers later this summer, but it's coming to Canada exclusively through Rogers. While one of the major selling points may be its immense customizability, the Canadian version will only ship in - you guessed it - black or white. It will be available for as little as $189.99 on select two-year plans.
Google+ user Дима Прокопенко has just given us a tantalizing, more complete look at the Moto X, posting a Rogers "Tech Experts" demo video that shows off some of the hotly-anticipated device's unique features.
Canada is clearly the best country that borders the US to the north, and it got a little bit better for GS3 owners today. It seems Canadian Galaxy S3s have started receiving updates that bring the fabled Multi-Window mode, among other things.
