About Taylor Kerns

Taylor was an amateur phone nerd for the better part of a decade prior to joining Android Police in 2018, where he's since authored more than a thousand articles about all things Android. Taylor serves as Gadgets Editor, and you'll see his byline on editorials, reviews, comparative buyer's guides, and technical explainers, as well as the occasional piece of breaking news. He's got soft spots for personal audio, wearable tech, smart lights, and mobile photography. There's a good chance he's carrying a Pixel phone right now. In his time away from AP, you'll probably catch Taylor hanging out with his two dogs, playing Xbox, or out shooting with his beloved Fuji X-T5. Send him memes and fan mail at taylor@androidpolice.com.

Premium Chromebooks are a niche product category; most Chromebooks in any price range can do pretty much all the same things. The difference comes in how well a particular device handles those tasks — and while HP's Chromebook x360 14 G1 is unlikely to convert anyone already against high-end Chrome OS devices on principle, it's an extremely competent laptop that's worth a look for anybody interested in a quality Chrome machine.

There have been deals aplenty on Google's current flagship, the Pixel 3, since shortly after its launch. One particularly popular one is the $200 discount we've seen a few times — and wouldn't you know it, that very offer is back for the next couple of weeks.

Before there was Google Photos, there was Shoebox. The app offered strikingly similar features, including automatic online backup of your photos and cross-platform access and sharing. Now, the service is shutting down. Users are no longer able to upload photos or videos, and media not exported by May 22 will be lost.

Beginning in July, you'll be able to return Amazon purchases to any Kohl's location.

Microsoft's stock price rose this week, briefly seeing the company join the pantheon of trillion-dollar tech giants. MSFT opened at $121.05 Monday morning and peaked at $125.76 Tuesday, nudging the company's valuation over the $1 trillion mark. The price has since fallen.

Believe it or not, Facebook's smart display and Echo Show analogue, Portal, is actually pretty well-liked by customers, holding a four-plus star rating at both Amazon and Best Buy. At $199, though, it's not the type of thing most people would splurge on on a whim — but it's currently half off from several retailers. The Portal's primary function is making video calls. It can communicate with other Portal devices, obviously, but it can also place calls to and take calls from just about any device through Facebook Messenger. There's a lot to like about the Nokia 9 PureView: it's got a unique camera setup, its construction feels high-end, and it's generally a solid performer. The in-display fingerprint scanner, though, just doesn't work as well as it should. Or at least it hasn't up until now — Nokia is pushing an update that's meant to address the scanner's poor performance.
