About Taylor Kerns

Taylor was an amateur phone nerd for the better part of a decade prior to joining Android Police in 2018, where he's since authored more than a thousand articles about all things Android. Taylor serves as Gadgets Editor, and you'll see his byline on editorials, reviews, comparative buyer's guides, and technical explainers, as well as the occasional piece of breaking news. He's got soft spots for personal audio, wearable tech, smart lights, and mobile photography. There's a good chance he's carrying a Pixel phone right now. In his time away from AP, you'll probably catch Taylor hanging out with his two dogs, playing Xbox, or out shooting with his beloved Fuji X-T5. Send him memes and fan mail at taylor@androidpolice.com.

We were expecting Android 9 Pie to hit a number of Asus devices including the Zenfone Max M2 earlier this spring. In March, it was announced that the update was to be delayed until April 15 at the latest — and now, five weeks later, it's finally landing. Better late than never?

Google's seven-inch Nest Hub — formerly Home Hub — is a great little addition to any Google-centric smart home. It functions as a control panel for all your connected gadgets, adds handy visuals to many Assistant tasks, and it might just be the world's best digital photo frame. Its price has continued to drop since the announcement of the larger Nest Hub Max, and right now, you can grab one for just $67.99 at Rakuten.

It's not unusual for beta software to come with quirks, and we've recently discovered yet another in Android Q Beta 3: RCS messaging functionality previously present in Messages on Pixel 3 phones seems to have disappeared. RCS-enabled conversations have reverted to SMS, and the Chat features option has vanished from the app's settings.

A Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL on a concrete surface

Google's new Pixel 3a and 3a XL phones have the potential to be the company's most widely adopted yet, with a competitive price and greater carrier availability. Another point in the 3a's favor: everyone's favorite online mega-retailer is now selling both models directly.Amazon never sold the Pixel 3 — you can find the phone there, sure, but only from third-party sellers. Google's new Pixel 3a and 3a XL launched today, and not only are they affordable, they're legitimately great. Starting at $399, they bring a lot of what people like about the full-fat Pixel experience — i.e., the software and the camera — to a much more palatable price point. And if that weren't enough, you can secure $100 in store credit when you purchase one of the new phones direct from Google.
