About Taylor Kerns

Taylor was an amateur phone nerd for the better part of a decade prior to joining Android Police in 2018, where he's since authored more than a thousand articles about all things Android. Taylor serves as Gadgets Editor, and you'll see his byline on editorials, reviews, comparative buyer's guides, and technical explainers, as well as the occasional piece of breaking news. He's got soft spots for personal audio, wearable tech, smart lights, and mobile photography. There's a good chance he's carrying a Pixel phone right now. In his time away from AP, you'll probably catch Taylor hanging out with his two dogs, playing Xbox, or out shooting with his beloved Fuji X-T5. The true wireless earbud space is absolutely booming right now, and with competition comes lower prices. Aukey's T10S earbuds are already on the low end at their $90 MSRP, but thanks to a pair of stacking coupons, they've fallen all the way to impulse-buy territory on Amazon. The buds have a lot of nice to have features, like both USB-C and wireless charging, IPX5 water resistance, and seven-hour battery life on a charge (plus about 17 more hours in the case). There's no aptX support, but it's hard to get worked up about that at such a low price.

Good news and bad news, Sling subscribers. The good news is that your package, be it Orange or Blue, is getting new features. But they're also both increasing in price, from $25 to $30 per month. If you've got both, you'll pay an additional $5, too: that plan is now $45.

Google has been known to discount its smart speaker hardware steeply and frequently — there's a high chance you or someone you know got a previous-generation Home Mini for free through one of countless promotions. Even by those standards, though, this is an uncommonly good deal: you can pick up a Nest Hub and two second-gen Nest Minis for at Target right now.

Back in July, YouTube began testing a new Explore tab on the home page of its iOS app. Not many people saw it — only about one percent of users on that platform. Apparently feedback has been positive, though, because YouTube has announced that the test is now expanding to more platforms, including Android.

Stadia's game library, despite a conspicuous lack of compelling original content, has continued to expand since the service's launch just four weeks ago. Today, members have access to a pair of previously-announced titles that, until now, didn't have firm release windows on the platform: Borderlands 3 and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

Earlier this month, HTC tweeted that its U11, U11+, and U12+ phones would be getting updated to Android 9 Pie this spring, beginning with the U11 before the end of May. The manufacturer is making good on its word, as Pie has starting hitting U11 devices — months after it landed on the cheaper U11 Life.

Cloud gaming isn't a new idea. Companies like OnLive (RIP) have been trying to make it work for the better part of a decade. Google's effectively limitless resources and software wizardry make it an ideal fit to work the kinks out of such a complicated problem, and with Stadia, it seems it may have done just that. In my time with the platform, streaming performance has been wildly impressive — but lackluster day-one game selection and plenty of half-baked features make for a rocky start for the fledgling gaming platform.

We've seen plenty of banger deals this Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and this one is up there with the best of them. Right now on Amazon, you can snag yourself a Samsung Galaxy S10, a pair of Galaxy Buds, and a $50 Amazon gift card for the staggeringly low price of $624. You'll need to hurry, though: this deal is only valid for about two more hours. In all, the contents of this particular deal are worth nearly $1,100 — $899 MSRP for the S10, $130 for the Galaxy buds, and $50 for the gift card. Buying them all together, you'll save about $455.

Black Friday has come and gone, but we're not done with pre-holiday deals by a long shot. Cyber Monday is upon us, and the deals refuse to quit. A whole bunch of what we're seeing today is an extension of sales that have been running since last week, but there's plenty of new stuff, too. Here, for your convenience, we've rounded up all the best deals we've spotted. We always try to give you a sense of how good a deal really is by avoiding comparisons to MSRP where they're not useful; if an item's MSRP is $300 but it usually sells for $250, a sale price of $200 is $50 off, not $100. This list is no different: sales are compared to street prices wherever possible, and we explicitly label comparisons to MSRP when we can't.

Black Friday is barreling toward us like a freight train. Thankfully, retailers are kind enough to warn us about many of the deals they intend to run ahead of time, which helps us help you make the best possible holiday shopping decisions. Here, for your convenience, we've rounded up all the best deals we've spotted in advance.

The Google Home Max is kind of a ridiculous thing: it's huge, and even one can get plenty loud enough to incite a noise complaint. Even more ridiculous (and more likely to rile up your neighbors) is that the speakers are designed to work in pairs. If that sounds like something you'd be into, you're in luck: for Black Friday, retailer Tink is selling a two-pack for just 9, a full $259 under retail.

Black Friday is still a few days away, but deals have been flying all month. Things are ramping up this week in particular, as many retailers like Walmart are starting their deals as early as Wednesday. Not to be outdone, Amazon is offering some right now, including a bunch of discounts on Fire TV devices. You can grab a number of Fire TV streaming gadgets for great prices today, including the Fire Stick 4K for half off and the Fire TV Recast for $100 off. Here are your options:

At Google I/O this year, Android TV Product Lead Anwar Haneef introduced a new look for the Play Store that focuses on usability and discovery. That new look is rolling out now to some users on Play Store version 16.9.42.

Terabyte microSD cards, incredible though they are, are still wildly expensive. For us mere mortals, the next best thing — 512 gigabytes — is much more attainable. That's especially true today: you can snap up a 512-gig card for just 80 bucks from Amazon or B&H.If you're trying to decipher those hieroglyphics on the card's face, let me make things a little simpler: SanDisk's Ultra cards aren't as fast as its Extreme ones, but they're plenty quick enough for most tasks, with read speeds up to 100 megabytes per second and a minimum write speed of 10 megabytes per second.

Black Friday is still weeks away, but retailers are already raring to tell us about their deals. Costco's holiday offerings aren't as jam-packed as, say, Best Buy's; there are no Pixel or Chromebook deals here. Still, there's plenty to chew on, especially if you're thinking about a new Samsung phone.

Despite our fascination with all things Google-made this week, other phones do continue to exist. The newest devices in Motorola's mid-range G series, expected to launch later this month, have cropped up in some new leaks, showing off a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 48-megapixel sensor.

Tile just announced its new, button-shaped tracker, the Tile Sticker, about a month ago. As you've probably surmised, it's your standard Tile tracker, but smaller, and you can stick it to stuff. You can get a great deal on an eight-pack right now: it's $100, $60 off the normal price — and you'll get a free Nest Mini to boot.

Afternoon, readers! As we barrel headlong toward Black Friday madness, let's all pause to appreciate the deals we have today. This week, you'll find a repeat of the best deal we've ever seen on Google's Nest Hub, plus a great price on a 60-watt USB-C charger, among other smartphone accessory savings.

Active noise-canceling headphones can cost you an arm and a leg, with top models like Sony's WH-1000XM3 going for multiple hundreds of dollars. But they don't have to! The Mpow H5 already represent a crazy value at their normal $50, but you can get a pair for just $35 right now.The M5 are really comfortable, last forever on a charge, and sound pretty nice to boot — really nice for $35. Their noise canceling isn't going to compete with something that costs eight to 10 times as much, but it'll dampen the drone of a long flight, and that in itself is pretty incredible at this price. They do charge with Micro USB, though, which is always a bummer. You can check out our full review for more information.
