About Matthew Sholtz
Matthew is the Games and Apps Editor at Android Police. He's been gaming since his first taste of a TI-99 at four years old. Matthew has been an Android user since the HTC Hero and has covered roundups, reviews, and daily mobile game news for over a decade. He's a person who holds a peculiar yet deep interest in all things to do with handheld gaming and constantly pushes to advance the state of the mobile industry beyond the bounds of its predatory monetization obsession.
Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

Okay, so Humble Bundle's new Digital Tabletop bundle isn't a mobile bundle, but it does happen to include Asmodee Digital's Android versions of Ticket to Ride, Mysterium: A Psychic Clue Game, and Talisman. The first two are both part of the base bundle, so you can snag them for as little as a dollar, but if you want to purchase Talisman, you will have to pay more than the average. The deal will run for twelve more days.
Back in April, we learned that Nintendo teamed up with Cygames to create a mobile action RPG called Dragalia Lost. At the time you could only pre-register for the title on the Japanese language website, but as of today there is now an English listing of the game on the Play Store, and you can pre-register for the upcoming release right now. Dragalia Lost is a brand new property, and it will be Nintendo's first original mobile game, which is kind of exciting. You can expect the official launch to take place on September 27th in the US, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau. More territories should follow shortly after.
Pixowl is an independent mobile developer with 10's of millions of downloads under its belt, all thanks to its highly popular The Sandbox series of games. The studio was just purchased by the publisher Animoca Brands for an upfront consideration of $4.875 million in cash and shares. The thing to understand is that The Sandbox is among the world’s largest independent user-generated content platforms and gaming ecosystems, and while it is no Minecraft or Roblox, it surely has a lot of potential to find just as much success.
Atypical Games is probably best known for its Sky Gamblers air combat series, though it looks like its open-world first-person survival games are starting to get some attention on Android. Escape from Chernobyl picks up the story after the events in Radiation City, and it's your job to unravel the mystery previously left unsolved. So get ready to explore an accurately recreated Chernobyl power plant that's filled to the brim with zombies in this hauntingly gorgeous open-world survival game.

The popular swipe ‘em up series Reigns is getting a Westeros-themed spinoff. The original Reigns made its appearance on the Play Store back in 2016, and at the tail end of last year Devolver Digital released the sequel Reigns: Her Majesty. Now it is apparent that a new spinoff of the popular franchise is coming sometime this October, and it will star all of your favorite Game of Thrones characters. Pre-orders are live for the Android, iOS, and Steam versions, and all three links can be found on the official Reigns: Game of Thrones website.

Deadline has revealed that ustwo games will collaborate with Paramount Pictures and Patrick Osborne to create a Monument Valley movie. Patrick Osborne is best known for writing and directing the animated shorts Feast (a film that won the Oscar for best animated short film in 2015) and Pearl, but this newly announced project will supposedly contain both live action and CG elements to create some sort of hybrid. The premise appears to revolve around live-action characters that venture into the game’s animated world.
CD PROJEKT RED is expanding. The studio best known for The Witcher series of RPGs now owns the majority stake in Spokko, a new Polish gaming studio brand co-created by Maciej Weiss and Rafał Staszewski. Spokko will remain largely independent of CD PROJEKT by retaining its creative autonomy thanks to sharing a similar philosophy of operation with CD PROJEKT, though it does seem clear both studios are teaming up on a new idea based on one of CD PROJEKT's brands.
Over the weekend one of the developers of Grand Mountain Adventure made a few successful posts on Reddit. Being the homebody that I am, I, of course, saw those posts and gave the game a quick look. Let's just say I came away very impressed, and despite the unfinished state of the title and its limited amount of preview content, I dare say it's one of the best skiing games on Android to date.

Okay, I know endless runners are played out at this point as far as mobile games go, but every once in a while something lands on the Play Store that bucks the trend. The newly released Bendy in Nightmare Run is one such game. Not only does it use a slick '20s cartoon theme for its art design, but the swipe-based gameplay isn't all that bad either. So if you are ready for a very challenging endless runner that contains some of the coolest graphics on Android to date, Bendy in Nightmare Run is a perfect choice.
