About Matthew Sholtz

Matthew is the Games and Apps Editor at Android Police. He's been gaming since his first taste of a TI-99 at four years old. Matthew has been an Android user since the HTC Hero and has covered roundups, reviews, and daily mobile game news for over a decade. He's a person who holds a peculiar yet deep interest in all things to do with handheld gaming and constantly pushes to advance the state of the mobile industry beyond the bounds of its predatory monetization obsession.

Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

Jam City announced today that the company is entering into a multi-year mobile game development partnership with Disney. This deal will not only grant Jam City the rights to develop titles around Pixar and Walt Disney properties, but the company has also acquired Disney's Glendale Games Studio to take over its operations.

Madfinger Games is probably best known for its Shadowgun mobile shooters, though I'm sure plenty of you enjoy its Dead Trigger zombie series as well. One thing is for sure, Madfinger is all about games with gunplay. Unkilled is one of its older FPS titles. It was originally released back in 2015, and it would appear that development has yet to cease as it just received a significant update. Not only is there a bunch of new content to explore, but there's a new co-op multiplayer mode that should really liven things up for the player base.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. This week I have a beautiful puzzle-platformer, the 1.0 version of Ingress, and a crazy release all about swapping spit. So without further ado, here are the most notable games released in the last week.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android applications that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous two weeks or so. This week I have a beta app for reading practice, a cursor app that makes one-handed use of a phone a breeze, and a Call of Duty companion app. So without further ado, here are the most notable Android apps released in the last two weeks.

Welcome to the latest entry in our Bonus Round series, wherein we tell you all about the new Android games of the day that we couldn't get to during our regular news rounds. Consider this a quick update for the dedicated gamers who can't wait for our weekly roundups, and don't want to wade through a whole day's worth of news just to get their pixelated fix. Today we've got an adorable cat-based card game, a quirky and oddly gross-out slingshot platformer, a retro tile-based puzzle game, a limitless 2D platformer, the latest Talking Tom pet simulation, and a Power Rangers card game. Without further ado:

Teslagrad was announced for Android back in September. At the time it was only available on the Play Store for pre-registration, and a release date was unknown. As of today the indie 2D Metroidvania is available for purchase. You can snag a copy right now for $4.89, which is a 30% discount off the planned retail price.

Last month Electronic Arts released a standalone gameplay beta for FIFA Mobile, and it would appear many of the changes tested in that beta have finally made their way to the official FIFA Mobile. Along with the start of a new season, you can expect a new engine, a new VIP program, and plenty of other enhancements over last year's seasonal update.

Back in December of 2017 we learned that Niantic would be rebooting its aging augmented reality mobile game Ingress into something called Ingress Prime. After a lot of fan feedback and a delayed release, Ingress Prime is finally heading out to users. This major update basically replaces the old game and attempts to deliver plenty of quality-of-life upgrades and a flashy new UI. Sadly, it would seem that these changes also introduce some new problems, and the player base isn't very pleased.

By now, you've probably heard all about Blizzard's blunder of an announcement for Diablo Immortal, an upcoming mobile MMORPG. Of all places, Blizzard chose to reveal this game at BlizzCon, which didn't go over too well with the hardcore fans that attend such an event. But now that the dust has settled a little, many of us are still left wondering if Diablo Immortal is actually a cheaply made mobile MMORPG or a rightful member of the franchise. If anything, Blizzard's refusal to comment on the monetization is somewhat worrying.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. This week I have the official release of Old School RuneScape, plus two separate Football Manager titles from Sega. So without further ado, here are the most notable games released in the last week.

Say what you will of Activision's Call of Duty series, one thing is for sure: it is hands down the most popular first-person shooter in existence today. It's thanks to this popularity that a stand-alone app such as the Call of Duty Companion App can exist. It serves as a 24/7 connection to all things Call of Duty, which means you can instantly analyze your performance, receive tailored recommendations, stay on top of the latest news, and most importantly, keep track of your friends so that you always know when they are online.

Sega's Football Manager 2019 Mobile and Football Manager 2019 Touch have both landed on the Google Play Store. These management sims bring along plenty of new enhancements, but of course, you can still expect to find everyone's favorite soccer management simulation gameplay.

Without further ado:

Back in September Jagex announced that Old School RuneScape would be releasing on Android on October 30th, and lo and behold, OSR Mobile is now officially available on the Play Store as a free-to-play release. That's right, the members beta is finally over, which means OSR Mobile no longer requires a subscription to jump in and enjoy its classic MMORPG gameplay.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. This week I have a collection of Shining Force games from Sega, the official release of Ghostbusters-themed augmented reality collection game, and the sequel to the ever-popular Trivia Crack quiz game. So without further ado, here are the most notable games released in the last week.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android applications that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. This week we have an esports app, an app that can guess your heritage just by scanning a picture of your face, more than a few A&E Android TV releases, and a note taking app that uses a smart AI to transcribe your voice recordings. So without further ado, here are the most notable Android apps released in the last week.

Alright, it's been a while since the last SEGA Forever release, but today we a have a new title that contains a three-pack from the Shining Force RPG series. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a series that has gone through a few changes over the years. The first title, Shining in the Darkness, is a first-person dungeon crawler with turn-based battles. The thing is, Shining Force and Shining Force II play more like a tactical RPG. So as you can see, this collection contains a solid selection that should cover just about anyone's interests.

So put on your proton pack and grab your Tobin's Spirit Guide because this time you’re the one who’s gonna be called.
