About Matthew Sholtz

Matthew is the Games and Apps Editor at Android Police. He's been gaming since his first taste of a TI-99 at four years old. Matthew has been an Android user since the HTC Hero and has covered roundups, reviews, and daily mobile game news for over a decade. He's a person who holds a peculiar yet deep interest in all things to do with handheld gaming and constantly pushes to advance the state of the mobile industry beyond the bounds of its predatory monetization obsession.

Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

N3TWORK has partnered with The Tetris Company to exclusively develop and publish new Tetris games for mobile, and the first game that will reach Android is called Tetris Royale. Much like the Nintendo Switch game Tetris 99, 100-player matches will be the focus of Tetris Royale so that mobile players can put their falling-block skills to the test to battle their way up the leaderboards each season.

Welcome to our Friday app and game sales roundup, everyone. Today I have a bunch of premium games that are on sale, and while a few of them were already covered on Wednesday, I've carried them over to today's roundup to ensure that everybody can pick and choose the titles they want without missing out. So don't delay, because the sales won't last forever.

The comparisons of Graveyard Keeper to the fan-favorite farming life simulator Stardew Valley are many, and rightfully so, because both games look and play very similarly. Of course, Graveyard Keeper offers a much darker theme since you'll spend the majority of your time maintaining a graveyard while facing the many ethical dilemmas the fall upon the position of a cemetery manager living in the middle ages.

Devolver Digital is bringing its 60-second adventure game Minit to Android. Initially, the studio published this stylish black and white video game on consoles and PC back in April of 2018, and even though it's been known that the title would be coming to Android, now that the pre-registration listing is up on the Play Store we are most likely nearing the official launch.

Last week we learned that No Break Games' quirky physics-based puzzle game Human: Fall Flat would be coming to Android on June 26th, and thankfully the developer has stayed true to its word as the title is now officially available on the Play Store for $4.99.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. Today I have Niantic's latest location-based AR game, Valve's version of Auto Chess, and an HD remaster of the second title in the original Layton trilogy. So without further ado, here are the most notable games released this week.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android applications that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous two weeks or so. Today I have an amusing AR drawing app, a Marvel learning app designed for children, and a new release from ClockworkMod intended to help with home automation. So without further ado, here are the most notable Android apps released in the last two weeks.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. It's the end of the week, so that means it's time to pore through another one of our sales roundups. Today I have a few highlights presented in bold, so make sure to snag these deals before their sales end.

Layton: Diabolical Box in HD is a remastered version of the second installment in the original Professor Layton puzzle-adventure trilogy, and it just landed on Android for $9.99. This enhanced version brings a few changes. You can expect remastered graphics, 150 extra puzzles, and new voiced sections as well as new animated cutscenes. Suffice to say Layton: Diabolical Box in HD is the most up-to-date version of the title currently available.

Yesterday Niantic announced that its latest location-based AR game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite would be coming to the Play Store on June 21st, but it would appear that the title has arrived a day early. That's right, if you happen to live in the US, you can now download Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and start your wizarding adventure a day early.

No Break Games' popular physics-based puzzle game Human: Fall Flat was released on PC back in 2016, and later was released on consoles. Thanks to a recent agreement between 505 Games and Human: Fall Flat's publisher Curve Digital the title will be coming to mobile.

Welcome to another round of app sales. It's Wednesday, which means we're almost over the hump, so why not reward yourself with some time away from work to pour through our latest app and game sales roundup. I don't have too many standouts today, but hopefully our Friday list will wrap up the week with a bang.

We've known that Niantic's upcoming location-based AR game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite would be coming to Android sometime soon, thanks to the recent betas in New Zealand and Australia. As of last night, the official Harry Potter: Wizards Unite Twitter account announced the official release date for the US and UK, and we only have two more days to wait. That's right, Wizards Unite will be available for download on the Google Play Store on June 21st.

The mobile port of the ROME: Total War – Barbarian Invasion expansion landed on the iPad back in 2017, and today Feral Interactive has announced that it's finally coming to iPhone and Android users sometime later this year. The central premise of this expansion revolves around the final years of Rome, and it will be up to choose whether you should defend the empire or lead the troops that aim to destroy it.

Before today the only way to pre-order an extra Stadia controller was if you already purchased the $130 Founder's Edition. As of this morning, Google is now offering a standalone Stadia controller to anyone for $69 plus shipping, though there is a catch, only those that own access to the Founder's Edition will be able to make use of the device before the public release of the game streaming service in 2020.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. Today I have the stable release of the gorgeous platformer Grimvalor, the sequel to the idle RPG Nonstop Knight, and the Android release of Spirit Roots, a quality platformer that's been available on iOS for some time. So without further ado, here are the most notable games released this week.

Now that E3 is over I thought it might be a good idea to round up all of the Android games announced during the three-day event, so that's exactly what I've done. If you missed out on our gaming coverage this week or would like a recap of what titles are coming to the platform, then get ready to dig into a roundup of every notable Android game presented during E3 2019.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. The weekend is just a few hours away, so that means it's time to dig into some app sales. Today's list is a longer one, and I've highlighted in bold a few of the more interesting games and apps.

At the beginning of the year, we learned that the idle RPG Nonstop Knight 2 would be coming to Android sometime in 2019, and in May the title finally went up on the Play Store as a pre-registration listing. As of this morning, Nonstop Knight 2 has been officially released. It's a free-to-play title, just like the original, though there is a lot of new content that allows for expanded gameplay.

Kuato Studios have announced the release of Marvel Hero Tales, an educational storytelling app designed to promote literacy for children (ages 7-11). Each story is themed around famous Marvel characters (much like a comic book), and it will be the user's job to flesh out the narrative by choosing from a selection of words. Essentially, players can create their own personal superhero story while also improving their vocabulary development.
