About Matthew Sholtz

Matthew is the Games and Apps Editor at Android Police. He's been gaming since his first taste of a TI-99 at four years old. Matthew has been an Android user since the HTC Hero and has covered roundups, reviews, and daily mobile game news for over a decade. He's a person who holds a peculiar yet deep interest in all things to do with handheld gaming and constantly pushes to advance the state of the mobile industry beyond the bounds of its predatory monetization obsession.

Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

Well what do you know, Cold Beam Games just release the followup to its music-powered dual-stick shooter Beat Hazard eight years after the original arrived on the Play Store. The title is currently in early access, so is still under development, which is probably why it is currently on sale for half-off, which means you can grab Beat Hazard 2 today for $3.99.

Little Misfortune comes from Killmonday Games, the same developer behind Fran Bow, a popular episodic adventure game that contains a creepy atmosphere. Little Misfortune follows in Fran Bow's footsteps, as it's also a dark adventure game. Luckily, this time around the devs haven't broken up the title into separate releases on Android, which means Little Misfortune is a complete package, and you can pick it up today for $8.99.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. The end of the week is finally here, and so it's time to check out the latest app and game sales available on the Google Play Store. For some reason, this entire week has been filled with icon sales, and today is no different. Besides the many icon packs on sale today, there's a few games worth mentioning, such as DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition, Hack, Slash, Loot, and Peace, Death, so don't miss out on those. As always, I've highlighted the notable titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 33 temporarily free and 73 on-sale apps and games for the end of the week.

This past November ConcernedApe (Eric Barone) released a free update for Stardew Valley known as version 1.4, and it has finally made its way to Android today. This is a large update, and so it brings along new content, features, and bug fixes, all while improving the gameplay experience with a handful of quality of life features.

Back in November of 2019, Madfinger's competitive first-person shooter Shadowgun War Games arrived on the Play Store for pre-registration. At the tail end of January, we learned the game would be officially released on February 12th, though it would appear Madfinger hit a few snags yesterday, and so the game was released late in the day, which is probably why the official PR didn't go out until this morning. Still, Shadowgun War Games is now officially available for all to enjoy, though it currently feels unfinished despite the presence of multiple subscription passes.

Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. Continuing the trend from Monday, there are many icon packs on sale today, so if you're looking to theme your device on the cheap, this is the week to do it. Of course, there are many other sales available on the Play Store today, and as always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 42 temporarily free and 40 on-sale apps and games for the middle of the week.

Welcome to Monday, everyone. Typically sales start off rather slow at the beginning of the week, and yet today there's a surplus of sales to share. Not only are there a bunch of icon packs on sale today, but there's also a wide selection of games, including many from Asmodee Digital, a well-known studio that centers its efforts on creating digital adaptations of popular board games. As always, I've highlighted the standout apps and games in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 46 temporarily free and 59 on-sale apps and games for the beginning of the week.

Back in August of 2018, the stylish auto-runner Bendy in Nightmare Run was released on the Play Store by Joey Drew Studios, and it has been wildly successful, picking up over 5-million installs over the last year and a half. Shortly after Nightmare Run's release, the followup Bendy and the Ink Machine landed on Android as a first-person action-horror game, continuing the spooky theme of Nightmare Run. Today the offshoot title Boris and the Dark Survival has arrived on the Play Store. Just like the last two games in the series, you can expect an unnerving experience where you'll have to use your wits to survive an evil Ink Demon stalking your every move.

Welcome to the roundup of the newest Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. Today I have a solid F2P platformer, the latest Auto Chess clone, and a fantastic puzzler all about plugging in chips, pushing blocks, stepping on switches, and rotating walls. So without further ado, here are the more notable Android games released during the week of February 3rd, 2020.

Welcome to the roundup of the best new Android applications that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous two weeks or so. Today I have a short-form video sharing app from the creator of Vine, a subscription-based ad blocker that works in the majority of mobile browsers, and an earthquake early warning app. So without further ado, here are the more notable Android apps released in the last two weeks.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. The end of the week is finally here, and so it is time to celebrate by checking out the latest app and game sales available on the Google Play Store. Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. Our sales roundup in the middle of the week tends to be lighter than our Monday and Friday roundups. So I only have a total of 52 apps and games to share today, but luckily there are actually quite a few quality discounts in the bunch, such as the sales for the games Golf Peaksinbento, and Bouncer Story. As always, I've highlighted the more interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 26 temporarily free and 26 on-sale apps and games for the middle of the week.

Cookies Must Die is the latest release from Rebel Twins, the creators of Daddy Was A Thief, Aliens Drive Me Crazy, and most notably, Dragon Hills. As expected, Cookies Must Die offers a zany story, beautiful 2D art, and quality controls, though this is a free-to-play release, so the title's monetization isn't the best, but it is at least reasonably tolerable thanks to title's polished gameplay.

Today marks the official launch of Nvidia's GeForce Now game streaming service, a direct competitor to Google Stadia. With this news in mind, many Stadia fans may be left wondering how Google will respond to the launch of GeForce Now, and it would appear that the official release of Monster Energy Supercross 3 is the big reveal from the Stadia camp today, since it's actually the first game to be released on the Stadia platform in 2020.

Welcome to Monday, everyone. It's the beginning of another week, and so it's time again to check out the latest app and game sales available on the Google Play Store. Surprisingly this is a bustling Monday, and so there's more than a few quality sales, such as Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, Doom & Destiny Advanced, and Gunslugs. As always, I've highlighted the more interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 46 temporarily free and 64 on-sale apps and games for the beginning of the week.

Nintendo has revealed that Fire Emblem Heroes will be the next mobile game from the company to receive a subscription pass. Back in November of 2019, Nintendo released two subscription plans for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. It's also worth noting that Mario Kart Tour was released in September 2019 with a monthly subscription in tow. Clearly, Nintendo has realized the amount of money that can be made by stuffing subscription plans into its free-to-play mobile games, and so fans can expect the upcoming $9.49 monthly Feh Pass subscription to arrive in Fire Emblem Heroes on February 5th.

Welcome to the roundup of the new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. Today I have a quality port of a faithful remaster for the SRPG Disgaea 1, the launch of a stylish and challenging platformer, and an entertaining minimal puzzler that's all about synchronized block movement. So without further ado, here are the more notable Android games released during the week of January 27th, 2020.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. The end of the week is finally here, so it's time to celebrate by exploring the latest sales currently available on the Google Play Store. As always, I've highlighted the more interesting titles in bold, and I'm glad to report that there are a few high-quality games available in today's list, such as This War of Mine and Beholder 2. So without further ado, here are 24 temporarily free and 32 on-sale apps and games for the end of the week.

Nippon Ichi Software has released its classic strategy RPG Disgaea 1 on the Google Play Store, seemingly out of nowhere. This new release goes by the name Disgaea 1 Complete, which means the title is indeed a remaster of the original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. Better yet, Disgaea 1 Complete is a premium release, which means there are no in-app purchases or advertisements included. Of course, since this is a premium remaster of a classic SRPG that contains hundreds of hours of gameplay, a premium price is also attached.
