About Matthew Sholtz

Matthew is the Games and Apps Editor at Android Police. He's been gaming since his first taste of a TI-99 at four years old. Matthew has been an Android user since the HTC Hero and has covered roundups, reviews, and daily mobile game news for over a decade. He's a person who holds a peculiar yet deep interest in all things to do with handheld gaming and constantly pushes to advance the state of the mobile industry beyond the bounds of its predatory monetization obsession.

Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

Spike Chunsoft announced that it would be bringing its Danganronpa visual novel series to Android back in April as part of a 10-year anniversary event. Today, the developer has released the first of three games slated for a mobile release. So, of course, the dev has started with the first title in the series, and it's an Anniversary Edition, which means it brings with it improved gameplay systems and a new gallery feature, as well as optimized touchscreen controls.

Don't miss out on the sales for Titan Quest, Kenshō, and Black Paradox

By

Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. Today is a slower day for sales, though I still have a few standouts to share. Most notably, the action RPG Titan Quest is on sale for $5 off, which is a steal. Of course, if you prefer something a little more relaxing, the premium match-3 puzzler Kenshō is a worthwhile pickup, as well as the current sale for Black Paradox, a roguelite shoot 'em up that offers an exceptional synth-wave soundtrack. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 18 temporarily free and 23 on-sale apps and games for the middle of the week.

Bethesda recently updated the Android versions of Doom and Doom II to bring a bunch of new features to the titles, such as tweaked touch controls, support for adjustable frame rate limits, not to mention physical controller support along with mouse and keyboard support. Heck, Bethesda even added a toggle for Vsync (a rarity for a mobile game), for those of you that would like to reduce either title's input latency. So no matter how you slice it, it would appear that Bethesda has actually improved both games, though it could be argued that all of these features should have been available in both titles from the jump.

Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. It's a slow day for sales, though I still have a few standouts to share with everyone. First and foremost, the popular simulation game 911 Operator is available today at a drastic discount. But if sims don't float your boat, then maybe the educational game Mathematiqa is more your speed. Of course, if you're looking for something more relaxing, then Railways is a new puzzler that people should definitely check out. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. KartRider Rush+ is here to give Mario Kart Tour a run for its money

Surprisingly, Nexon's racer is a worthwhile competitor

By

You may have never heard of it, but the Crazyracing KartRider series is a popular franchise in South Korea, and so Nexon has finally brought the racer to the West with the release for KartRider Rush+. This is a free-to-play kart racer, much like Mario Kart Tour, and so drifting around corners while dodging obstacles is the game's bread and butter, though much like its competition from Nintendo, this is a game filled with in-app purchases, so expect a plethora of customization options that are available for purchase should you want to deck out your racer and kart.

Of course, if you're an RPG fanatic, then you'll also want to grab The Quest, which is a deep RPG that's also on sale today for half-off. If RPG's don't float your boat, then maybe the isometric puzzler Into the Sky is more your speed. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 32 temporarily free and 50 on-sale apps and games for the beginning of the week.

Until today, there hasn't been much mentioned about the upcoming title, but luckily Sega has just revealed that Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 will land on Android on May 7th and that it's officially available for pre-registration starting today.

By

It looks like PUBG Corporation skipped patch 0.17.5, but 0.18.0 is here as of this morning, and it brings with it more than a few changes and additions. The primary focus this month is the release of Mad Miramar, an update to the Classic Miramar map that adds refreshed graphics and a bunch of new zones, not to mention, sandstorms. The P90 makes its first appearance in the Arena Mode, and new cheat detection has been implemented. We also know EvoGround is slated to receive a new mode sometime soon, and new Classic Mode Content should be coming soon as well, along with the launch of Royale Pass Season 13 on May 13th.

Today SEGA has revealed Total War: ELYSIUM, an upcoming collectible card game for mobile and PC, and it's clearly themed around Creative Assembly's Total War strategy series. Today also marks the unveiling of a closed beta test for Android users, as well as the release of a trailer that provides a first look at gameplay footage. As you would expect, Total War: ELYSIUM will offer tactical card-based gameplay, where players will strive to build decks out of the game's many cards, all so that they can rule with an iron fist over the battlefield.

Tapping two buttons has never felt more boring

Samsung held its annual Unpacked event yesterday, revealing a plethora of products, such as the new S20 line of phones. In an effort to make these phones look appealing to gamers, Samsung also announced that Microsoft's racer Forza Street will come to the Galaxy Store this spring as a free-to-play release. Of course, the game is already available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store, and seeing that I'm an extremely impatient person, I've sideloaded the APK (V29.0.9) to take the title for a spin to see exactly what it has to offer.

DEEMO II and Soul of Eden are coming to Android, up for pre-reg now

Rayark International is bringing two new games to the Play Store

By

Rayark International is probably best known for its rhythm game series Cytus, though its action RPG Implosion - Never Lose Hope is also a very well-known title. Of course, the Cytus series isn't the developer's only rhythm game. The piano-based rhythm title DEEMO is also a major hit, and so it has amassed over 5-million installs on Android since its release in 2013. After seven years, it's now clear that a sequel is in the works, and it was recently listed on the Play Store for pre-registration, along with a secondary title called Soul of Eden, which is a card-based RTS.
