About Matthew Sholtz

Matthew is the Games and Apps Editor at Android Police. He's been gaming since his first taste of a TI-99 at four years old. Matthew has been an Android user since the HTC Hero and has covered roundups, reviews, and daily mobile game news for over a decade. He's a person who holds a peculiar yet deep interest in all things to do with handheld gaming and constantly pushes to advance the state of the mobile industry beyond the bounds of its predatory monetization obsession.

Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

After the success of Bridge Constructor Portal, it would appear Headup Games has been working on a new branded release for the franchise that's themed around The Walking Dead TV show. Well, the studio recently teamed up with the YouTuber Drae to show off the game in action, and while the commentary is often cringeworthy, the 20-minute video still offers a solid look at how Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead plays. So if you'd like to take an early look, Drae's video is available below the break.

You may have never heard of it, but MO: Astray is a positively-reviewed action-platformer that landed on PC in 2019 and has amassed many emphatic reviews thanks to its quality Metroidvania-like gameplay. The title comes from Archpray Inc. and appears to have been published on PC and the Nintendo Switch by Rayark International, the same company that's publishing the title on Android, probably best known for its rhythm games. So we already know the mobile port for MO: Astray is in good hands, and now you can get it on the Play Store.

Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. While the middle of the week tends to be slow when it comes to sales on the Play Store, I still have a couple of standouts to share with everyone today. First up is Romancing SaGa3, a solid JRPG from Square Enix that usually retails for $28.99, but today you can pick it up for $7.99, which is a fantastic deal. So without further ado, here are 14 temporarily free and 22 on-sale apps and games for the middle of the week.

Players can also expect a new underground world to explore as well as Metro-themed rewards when season sixteen launches later this month. Of course, new maps, new gear, and tons of bug fixes are also included with today's free update to version 1.1, which I'll detail after the break.

Welcome to Monday, everyone. After a fantastic weekend of sales, it looks like we are starting this week off a little slow, but I still have a few standouts to share with everyone. First up is Despotism 3k, an enjoyable strategy game that sports a wickedly dark sense of humor. Next up is Icewind Dale, a CRPG that's on sale every other week, but a quality game nonetheless. And last we have 112 Operator, the much-awaited sequel to 911 Operator. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So whether you're looking for the best games of quality or are simply looking for the latest free-to-play gacha releases, you're covered. This week I have the first chapter in the latest Space Marshals shooter, the second game in Amanita Designs' Samorost adventure series, and an attractive arcade game where you control a sine wave. So without further ado, here are the new and notable Android games released during the week of November 2nd, 2020.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. After a slow week, things are picking up for the weekend, and so I have some fantastic sales to share with everyone. First up is Final Fantasy IV, a great JRPG that recently received an update for immersive mode as well as support for large-screen devices. Next is Worms 3, an enjoyable artillery game that's best played solo since the online functionality is buggy. Last up is MudRunner, the mobile version of the mudding game where you'll drive large trucks through realistic sludge. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 37 temporarily free and 36 on-sale apps and games for the end of the week.

In cooperation with ArtPlay Games, NetEase just announced that it will bring the popular Metroidvania title Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to Android and iOS, and the game will be released worldwide as a premium title, just like on consoles and PC. Bloodstained was created by Koji Igarashi, the producer behind some of the more popular Castlevania titles such as Harmony of Dissonance. This is why the 2019 release for Bloodstained was hotly anticipated, which is why I'm sure more than a few people will be excited to see how the game stacks up on mobile.

Amanita Design is probably best known for its point and click adventure game Machinarium, though Botanicula and CHUCHEL are also highly-regarded titles that offer similar gameplay. Of course, the studio started with a game called Samorost, and it has received two sequels since its 2003 browser-based release. Sadly only the third title in this quirky series has been available on Android. That is, until today. Amanita Design has just released Samorost 2 on the Play Store, and it sports improved graphics, a new save system, as well as fullscreen support, all to celebrate the game's fifteenth anniversary.

If you've never heard of it, Space Marshals is an enjoyable top-down tactical shooter series that's already seen two Android releases. Seeing that the series is so popular, it makes sense that the developer would want to follow up with a third release, and the first chapter in this title is now available on Android a day early. You see, Pixelbite announced that Space Marshals 3 would arrive on November 5th, with a $4.99 in-app purchase to unlock the entirety of the first chapter. Well, the game is here a day early, and if you'd like to give it a try, you can grab the free install from the Play Store right now.

First up is Buff Knight, an enjoyable idle endless runner. Next is 7Days, a lost-phone adventure game all about solving puzzles, and last up is Kingdom Two Crowns, a side-scrolling strategy game where you'll build your kingdom from atop your horse. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier. So without further ado, here are 20 temporarily free and 29 on-sale apps and games for the middle of the week.

Back in August of 2019, Virtual Realms announced the development for Warhammer: Odyssey, an upcoming MMORPG that looked promising despite a lack of details. Well, over the last year, development of the title has been moving along, with Virtual Realms sharing a few snippets of the game along with a way to pre-register on the official website, though gameplay videos were pretty much absent. This changes today with the official release of the first gameplay video for Warhammer: Odyssey, and while this is mainly a cinematic trailer, there's a few seconds of gameplay that shows off some of the game's characters, so this video indeed offers the first look at Warhammer: Odyssey in action.
