DJI's Valentine's Day sale makes cameras, gimbals, drones more appealing than a diamond ring
DJI might be the first name you think of when it comes to consumer-grade gimbals and drones. They come with pretty fair price tags on the regular, but several times a year, the company likes to put on the sale. And while the Black Friday and Christmas sales it put on last year eclipse this Valentine's Day one in size, you can still save a chunk of change on some neat gear.

In business, communications can be an exhaustive rote practice. You exchange greetings, suss out what the other side wants, and then things might get interesting from there. But in most cases, you could probably do well for yourself by setting up a bunch of templates in your email. More email apps are bringing them on board and the relatively popular Edison Mail is one of them.

The novel coronavirus outbreak that has infected more than 20,000 people, killed hundreds, and has put millions of people in China under quarantine is increasingly affecting travel not just within, but into and out of the country. Nearby countries are handling cases and deaths of their own. All of this could throw a wrench into the Mobile World Congress as the trade show is set to begin in Barcelona on February 24. Two major participants, LG and ZTE, have announced that they won't be there.
People are spending more time on YouTube and that means ad buyers are spending more cash to reach them. It also just so happens that a growing number of viewers are paying to avoid those commercials and even to watch non-YouTube programming. That's the picture parent company Alphabet is painting with its fourth-quarter earnings report.
A couple years ago, we had planned out an amazing promotional campaign for our site that involved sharing links to our best posts of the week on community bulletin boards in senior centers, town halls, public libraries, and local supermarkets all across the world. But we didn't have the budget for that, so we decided to do a newsletter instead.
Why YouTube videos 'made for kids' won't play in the miniplayer: A summary of COPPA compliance
It can take a fair bit of time for a series of major changes to a service everyone's seemingly familiar with to register with constituents. When YouTube announced its beefed-up compliance measures for the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, independent content creators rang the first alarm bells, fearing their videos would be subject to restrictions on their creative voice and revenue. Now, viewers are beginning to complain about the loss of features on their end whether they're trying to keep their kids educated and entertained or if they happen to enjoy some nostalgic puppetry themselves. So, we're taking a comprehensive yet concise look at what's been going on and what might come next.
Anyone who lives near what's called the Ring of Fire is aware of "the big one" coming. Earthquakes are some of the most devastating natural disasters to occur in a short span of time. And while scientists have been able to develop an early warning system, it can only give people a moment's notice to take shelter — but every second counts. One such app that has recently come out is QuakeAlertUSA from Early Warning Labs.

Twitter has had a long night after releasing a bugged-out update for its Android app. We have the details on that small saga as well as a fix that's rolling out right now.
Ah, WhatsApp. It's a Facebook-owned chat client with more than 5 billion installs on Android and has been quite stubbornly behind the curve on bringing on a dark mode of some sort. The first hint of it came in 2018, then came a couple more signals last year, but it's now 2020 and we've still had no reason to pull out our Simon & Garfunkel jokes. Well, good news at last: the latest beta will finally let you give dark mode a spin.
New 4G Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets will make cheap phones the best they can be in 2020
Qualcomm might be leading the charge towards 5G with new chipsets for premium and "Premium B" phones this year. But in many parts of the world where the transition from 4G will be especially slow to start, the chipmaker will also need to cater to people set to stick with LTE for the next while. It's at this juncture that the company introduces the Snapdragon 460, 662, and 720G SoCs.
Android Police covers a variety of products under its umbrella — some of them aren't strictly in the Android ecosystem — and one such diverse category is home surveillance. Namely, smart home surveillance. So, any chance we get to highlight savings on some pretty hefty buys, we do it. This time around, Amazon and Best Buy are running dueling sales on Arlo Pro 3 cameras. So, let's face it: companies in the smart home surveillance business have been weathering some tough scrutiny lately about where their users' data goes and how it's being used. Amazon's Ring has been criticized for partnering with local police departments to extremely intimate levels while whitebox OEM Wyze left unsecured servers exposed to the public for at least two weeks. Arlo, owned by San Jose-based Netgear, has had its share of vulnerabilities exploited as well.Every company has its thrills and spills, but when it comes to this sector of tech, this author personally believes that you should be looking for a vendor that is focused narrowly on its hardware and services and is separated far enough from external influences to operate independently. And if you go by those standards, it seems like Arlo fits the bill.Android Police's review of the Arlo Pro 3 can be found here.
The tidal waves of Galaxy S20 leaks continue to roll in. It's been high season for leaks bloggers like Max Weinbach, who we've just had on the Android Police Podcast. For Ishan Agarwal, who, along with India's MySmartPrice, is responsible for the latest spec dump on the S20 5G, S20+ 5G, and S20 Ultra 5G models that will be sold in many parts of Europe and Asia, this season just got a bit higher.
You can now enroll in Google's Advanced Protection Program using just your phone, no backup key required
The Advanced Protection Program is arguably the best way to secure access to all of your documents and information you've stored in your Google account. Until now, though, you were required to consign two security keys in order to get those extra safety measures and only one of them could be an Android phone. Those requirements seem to have changed today as Google has started allowing iOS devices to act as keys and letting users enroll into the program with just their mobile device, no backup key needed.
One of the key pieces to our digital identities, whether we like it or not, is our mobile phone number. You likely use it one way or another in a two-factor authentication login (you shouldn't). Thing is, as it's been demonstrated quite a few times, they can be easily hijacked in a few easy steps by malicious actors ringing up carriers' customer service representatives — many of whom are all too understanding in helping users out of what's supposedly a stressful situation. So, just how easy is it to steal someone's phone number on a prepaid network? Researchers at Princeton University say extremely so in a recently published whitepaper draft.
Google's always experimenting with tiny improvements to its search experience with the hope of helping out users who feel like their wants and needs are stuck in the margins. Fortunately for them, after months of it hiding in the background, they can now finally access these experimental features through a new Labs section of the search app.
