The wireless industry here in the US is definitely changing, if but slowly - very slowly. T-Mobile was the first to start some new trends, notably doing away with data caps. Users who exceeded their data allotment for the billing cycle would be throttled back, not cut off. Sprint followed suit in October of last year. Recently, Verizon Wireless finally caught on and added free throttling to its pre-paid plans and also to its post-paid plans for a small monthly fee. Now, AT&T joins the fray with its announcement today of Mobile Share Advantage.
Just a few hours ago, Google started the rollout for the first of its two new messaging apps, Duo. For me and some of us here, the Play Store listing still shows "Pre-Registration," but this is the typical Google way. As a refresher, Google is releasing the dynamic messaging duo (ha) to compete in this mobile-first market. Both the text-based Allo and the video-based Duo will be tied to a phone number instead of a Google account. This, obviously, directly contests with Hangouts, Google's all-in-one messaging platform, and is more in line with services like WhatsApp.
Coming as an inevitable surprise to no one, Google has announced today that Hangouts On Air will be leaving Google+ and moving to YouTube Live. All future broadcasts will need to be scheduled in YouTube Live, and events in Google+ will shut down after the hard date of September 12.

As we quickly approach the dawn of the 2016 Nexus era, we should not so easily forget the Nexuses of yesteryear. Just yesterday, we brought you a deal for a 32GB Nexus 5X via Groupon. Prices for the old budget-friendly Nexus are dropping quickly. Google Fi has had some good (and some outright fantastic) Nexus offers, but those have been US-only. Now, we have a similar price for international Nexus users. From eBay, you can score a 16GB Nexus 5X for $199.99 in all three colors. This is $150 less than what Google charges. 16GB of internal storage may not be enough for everyone (myself included), but for others, 16GB works just fine.
Last month, Samsung announced a limited edition of the Galaxy S7 Edge to celebrate the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. This version of the S7 Edge is certainly unique, with the body in black and the buttons and trims in the colors of the Olympic rings. Samsung also announced that it would give 12,500 of the limited edition phones to the athletes of the Rio Olympics.
Buying a new TV is not something I typically look at doing. Sure, I like to go to Best Buy and look at the shiny things, dream a bit, and then look dejectedly at my empty wallet. Today brings us a new deal, but this is one is from Dell. The company is selling the television for $698, which may not seem all that great, especially considering that it is higher than Amazon’s price of $676.90.
