Space-inspired physics games have been given a boost thanks to Angry Birds Space. If you're looking for something with a little more drama and a little less pig, then New Orbit might be right down your gravity well. The 99¢ game from rookie developer Blackish combines Asteroids-style navigation, gravity-driven physics and an ambitious if not overly promising story. On that note, the full title is "NEW ORBIT: Episode 1," so there's probably more on the table. Luckily there are no menacing phantoms in sight.

Look, no one likes flying. No one. With the possible exception of that guy who's racked up a billion airline miles and takes a round trip from JFK to Dubai just to get free cocktails. But since you've got to fly now and then, it's nice to have an aesthetically enjoyable way of keeping tabs on your flights and connections. Mobiata has a new, free version of the FlightTrack app, which is more than you can say for the dry sandwiches on your last non-stop Delta flight. And more than that, it's actually pretty awesome - this is easily the most visually appealing app of its kind on the Google Play Store.

Android docks are thin on the ground, mostly because there's just too many phones and tablets for accessory makers to invest in developing them. Philips is the exception, and while their range of Fidelio docks have been well-received, they're also pretty expensive. On that note, you can pick up the Fidelio AS140/37, their mid-range Android speaker dock, for just $49.99 in Target stores. That's $60 off the suggested retail price, and more than off of Amazon's price. The deal is not available on Target's website - trying to get it into your cart will only return an error. We called a local store to make sure the deal is active.

Jelly Bean App Encryption Breaks Thousands Of Apps In The Play Store - Google Disables DRM For Now

Piracy is a major issue for Android, and even more so for Android developers, which is why Jelly Bean introduced App Encryption. But this may be a case of the cure being worse than the disease: hundreds of developers of paid apps have chimed in on a Google Code thread, claiming that the encryption (or more accurately, the location of installed and encrypted apps from the Google Play Store) makes their apps entirely unusable, as account information and other stored data is removed after a device reboot. As a result, Google has apparently disabled the security feature for the Play Store on Jelly Bean devices.

Google Music has become quite the app over Android's lifecycle, and there are plenty of very solid alternatives out there. But the vast majority of them offer a rather tired way of accessing your local music collection, splitting them into the same artist, album, genre and playlist sections we've been using for decades. n7player Music Player (yes, it's repetitive) has a uniquely visual way of displaying your tunes, worth checking out for any music lover who wants to shake things up. We've covered this app before, but for the next week it'll only cost you a single greenback in the Google Play Store.

If you're serious about security on your Android phone or tablet, you probably know that the Face Unlock feature introduced in Ice Cream Sandwich is a long way from secure. While Google didn't make any claims to the contrary, it looks like the extra "Liveness check" (which requires the user to blink after the initial scan) is almost as susceptible. A group of YouTube users demonstrated how to get past the check with a photo taken off of Facebook and just a few minutes of Photoshopping.

A headstrong female space marine in powered armor, with a gun for a hand. Miles of twisting, turning passageways to explore. Double-jumps, power ups, and huge, terrifying bosses. Stop me if you've heard all this before. You'd be forgiven for thinking that MEGATROID is a Nintendo 3DS title that somehow made it onto the Google Play Store: the game wears its inspiration from the likes of Metroid and Castlevania on its sleeve. But that's no reason to ignore it. And here's one to do just the opposite: MEGATROID comes from Triolith Entertainment AB, the developer of the well-received Wisp.

Top-down shooters, also known as "bullet hell" games, are fairly common on mobile platforms. But rarely have we seen one with the complexity and artistry of this one. AstroWings3: Icarus is the latest in a series that started on iOS, and the first to make the warp jump to Android. Don't let that dissuade you, though - it's well worth your attention if you're a fan of the genre. Customizable weapons and screen-filling attacks are par for the course, and the loose connection to Greco-Roman mythology gives the game a nice presentation. You'll need a pretty powerful device - my Galaxy Nexus shudders when there are too many enemies at once.

The day that many ROM enthusiasts have been dreading has arrived: the CyanogenMod Team has announced the end of life support for the original Nexus One, along with other first-generation Snapdragon devices, including the HTC EVO 4G, [Droid] Incredible and Desire and others. None of these devices have official builds of CyanogenMod 9 (though plenty of independent ROM developers have done their best) and they won't be getting any CM updates beyond the 7.X Gingerbread branch.

We'd heard that Samsung was planning an oversized tablet with an incredible screen resolution, but after said 11-inch Galaxy Tab failed to appear at both CES and Mobile World Congress, the Android world moved on to bigger (though not necessarily better) things. In today's opening salvo of legal back-and-forth between Apple and Samsung, the tablet was revealed as part of the latter's strategy for 2012. The slightly larger 11.8-inch, 2560x1600 tablet has no designation beyond "P10", but it looks like Samsung definitely intended to release it when the document was created last year.

The original Transformer was one of the first tablets to capture the imagination of the Android community, and three iterations later the family continues to be popular among modders and ROM enthusiasts. The latest and inarguably greatest member of ASUS' tablet family, the Transformer Pad Infinity, now has infinitely more options when it comes to aftermarket ROMs and modifications. The company released the TF700 version of their bootloader unlock tool, and interested users can download it from the ASUS support website. The release comes almost exactly two months after the cheaper Transformer Pad 300 got the same treatment.

Superhero tie-in games are inevitable. But over the last decade or so, gamers have found that they're not inevitably bad. Spider-man and Batman have both had something of a renaissance on consoles, helping us to forget some truly awful licensed titles. Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City have demonstrated that exceptional gaming experiences can spring from licensed titles, at least when enough talent, creativity and resources are directed at them. It was these two games, even more than its movie tie-in, that inspired Gameloft in the creation of The Dark Knight Rises for Android.

"Serial killer" and "Simulator" aren't words that usually appear together. But in the case of Dexter, Showtime's prima donna of premeditation, it might just work. This fall, Showtime and Ecko|Code (Marc Ecko's game development studio) will bring Dexter Morgan to Android. It's labeled "Dexter The Game 2", since the original is a web-based affair. The second time around seems to be taking a Grand Theft Auto-style open approach.

As mobile gaming starts to mature, new developers and properties have had a chance to shine. While Rubicon's Great Little War Game hasn't reached the lofty heights of some of the more mainstream titles, its mix of cartoonish humor and solid turn-based strategy has made it one of the most popular games on Android. The sequel, craftily named Great Big War Game, brings elements from both new and old strategy games to make a more cohesive whole. Is it worth three bucks? Well, even with the new editions the core gameplay remains the same -the visuals and feel haven't gotten as big a shift as the change from "Little" to "Big" might imply. To put it simply: if you played the original and had fun, there's even more to love in Great Big War Game. If you came away from the first game unimpressed, there's nothing here that will change your mind.
