Pinterest, the social media platform of choice for aichmophiliacs, is a great place to look at ideas for home decorating, fashion, crafts, and a thousand other things. I'm not much pinterested in the site, but my wife sure loves it. Some days she spends hours poring over the app, searching for inspiration for her latest project.
The PRIV represents a turning point for beleaguered BlackBerry. Once the most dominant player in the smart phone arena, BlackBerry has diminished worse than the elves of Rivendell since the rise of iOS and Android. Desperate for relevancy, BlackBerry has abandoned its own OS in favor of the OS created by the competitor that crushed it into near oblivion. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?
USB Type-C charging is an awesome addition to many of the new Android devices launching this year. Faster charging speeds, reversible plug, a more sturdy connection – what's not to like? Well, USB Type-C is cool and all, but the reality is that most of the gadgets you and I own still use a MicroUSB plug, and that isn't going to change for quite some time. One of the biggest perks of MicroUSB charging is that they are pretty affordable if you buy them from the right place. Today, using a coupon code, you can grab a five pack of super spiffy iXCC MicroUSB cables for on Amazon. You might think, "Meh. They are just cables." These, however, are no ordinary cables! They are corrosion resistant, high gauge, heavy-duty, gold-plated MicroUSB cables with a reversible USB 2.0 end (that's the fatter side). That's right folks, you can't plug the USB 2.0 end in the wrong way! Have you ever seen such an incredible thing in your whole life? These cables are so awesome iXCC backs them with an 18 month warranty, which is probably rarely invoked since they score a solid 4.4 star rating on Amazon. How can you say no to a deal like this?!? IT'S FREAKING AMAZING!Whoa. Sorry guys, a little bit of my inner infomercial salesman escaped there. I feel terrible that you had to see that.Anyways, the discounted pack includes your standard assortment of cables, including 1x one-foot cable, 3x three-foot cables, and 1x six-foot cable. Apply the coupon code 8O75T7S8 at checkout to drop the price to $9. Keep in mind that the code only works on this particular length assortment.Source: Amazon
[Update - Comcast Customers Are Not Invited] HBO GO For Android TV Finally Available For Download
Read update
Back in May of this year we reported on the imminent expansion of Android TV apps promised by Google, including an app for HBO GO. The timeline for its release was originally "sometime this summer". Looking out my window at the sodden mess of wet, decaying leaves plastered to my driveway here in Seattle, I think it's safe to say they missed that deadline. Oh well, I guess late is better than never.
Second Generation Moto 360 Charging Dock Now Available For Purchase On The Google Store For $40
Android Wear devices have gone from novelty to necessity for many of us Android lovers in the past year. They are just so doggone handy, and some of them also make quite a fashion statement. One of the better looking devices on the market is the second generation Moto 360.
Stream Your Favorite STARZ Shows On Android TV With New STARZ Play App (Unless You Are A Comcast Customer)
STARZ may not have as many subscribers as HBO, but the premium cable network has several popular shows with millions of loyal followers. Today, watching these shows got a little easier for Android TV owners as the STARZ Play Android TV app was added to the Playstore. Unlike HBO's Android TV launch, the app is available for all devices out of the gate, both TVs and streaming boxes.
[Deal Alert] Unlocked LG G4 (H815) Continues To Drop In Price, Available Now For $380 On eBay
As if deciding which Nexus device to purchase wasn't hard enough, there are also several other killer Android flagships that are getting cheaper by the day, begging consideration. One of the best of this group is the LG G4. Just a month ago it was available for $400, a great price, and now you can pick one up on eBay even cheaper at just 0.
[Deal Alert] Get Yourself A Highly Rated Aluminium CHOETECH Three Coil Wireless Charger For $29 After A $7 Off Code
Wireless charging is just peachy, but it's even peachier (trust me, it's a real word) when you have a charger with multiple coils. The more coils you have, the wider the charging area is, removing the aggravation of having to perfectly align your phone. Right now, you can grab a CHOETECH Qi wireless charging cradle with, count 'em, three charging coils, for $29 after a $7 off coupon code. That's enough coils to make a boa constrictor jealous (snake joke, it had to be a snake joke).
As a lover of a good bargain, I write a fair number of deal alert articles for AP. Recently, I have seen a few readers complain in the comments that they are tired of these pieces. But you know what, those readers are in the minority. Most of the feedback I receive is overwhelmingly positive. In fact, I've been told that the articles I write are of a quality you wouldn't get from any other guy.
[So Spooky Right Now] 'Halloween Watch Face' Is A Watch Face For, Well, I Bet You Can Guess
Halloween. What a wonderful holiday. Costumes, haunted houses, pumpkin evisceration, and free candy. Seriously, there are few holidays that can compete with Halloween in crazy awesomeness and weirdness (St. Patrick's day, I'm giving you the second place prize).
Ski Safari was one of the first mobile games I really got into. Apparently, I wasn't the only one who enjoyed it, because it was downloaded over 140 million times. Who knew escaping an avalanche by sliding down a frozen hill while hitching rides on Yetis, penguins, and reindeer could be so fun? Well, two years after the original's launch, a sequel aptly named 'Ski Safari 2' has been released on the Play Store, for free. Not bad, especially when you consider its iOS counterpart is selling for $2.49.
The Nexus 6 was a pretty good device when it was released last year, but it was not without its flaws. One glaring issue the phone had was an AMOLED panel with sub-par white balance and color reproduction. Well, it seems the Nexus team heard your complaints and confirmed on Reddit that they have addressed the problem by outfitting this year's flagship, the Nexus 6P, with the latest gen Samsung AMOLED panel.
[Deal Alert] Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here' Free On Google Play Music (Probably, Most Likely, Definitely, Maybe, Possibly US Only)
Right now, I wish you were here with me. You and I could share a cigar (or maybe a Sprite instead, I think smoking is blech) and then I could welcome you to the machine sitting in my living room that I am typing on right now.
[Deal Alert] Holy Crap - eBay Has New, Unlocked Galaxy S6 G920i For Just $430 (US Only)
This is the G920i model, which is the standard international version. It should play nice with most GSM carriers bands, but you can check the full list of supported frequencies on the product page. It ships free anywhere in the continental US and tax is only charged to customers ordering from California and Kentucky. Unfortunately, there is no option for shipping outside the US.
[Deal Alert] Logitech Harmony Home Control Just $99 Until 12 AM PST On Amazon - Down From $150
Smart home technology is great. The Nest Learning Thermostat, Phillips Hue, and Sonos sound systems are wonderful products that make life more convenient, automated, and beautiful. These technologies are great, but many components in a smart home are controlled by applications from a smart phone or tablet. Having to pull your phone out of your pocket and unlock it every time you want to turn off the lights while watching a movie can be a little annoying.Fortunately, the Logitech Harmony Home Control makes running a smart home a little easier. The remote works great for controlling your media center, but it also can be programmed to control many different home automation devices. It's normally a bit on the pricey side at $150, but today you can pick one up for just $99, the same price as the less feature filled Logitech Harmony Smart Control. The biggest differentiating feature between the two devices is that the Home Control has dedicated buttons to control smart outlets and WiFi connected lights while the Smart Control does not.
[Deal Alert] Jason Derulo: 'Everything Is 4' Available For Free On Google Play Music (US Only Until Proven Otherwise)
Jason Derulo is an artist who makes music and today his latest album, 'Everything Is 4', is free on Google Play. Here's the playlist.
[Deal Alert] Buy A Brand Spanking New Unlocked AT&T LG G Flex 2 On eBay For $250 ($40 Less Than It Was Last Time)
Pretty good, fairly decent, and not bad are all phrases that can be used to describe the LG G Flex 2. The younger, more curvaceous cousin of the LG G3 has respectable specs and a body curved like a banana that you either think is awesome or pointless and stupid. Speaking of stupid, the price when it launched was an insane $709 on AT$T (that ain't no typo) and apparently everyone agreed that price was obscene because they keep popping up brand new on ebay for a whole lot less.
[Deal Alert] Hockey Puck Shaped Anker Qi Wireless Charger Only $12 On Amazon - That's Not A Bad Price
Wireless charging. It's like charging, but without wires. I didn't understand why it was such a big deal when the first devices came out with Qi charging compatibility. I mean, is it really that hard to plug in a cable to the bottom of your phone? Nah, it really isn't, but man, once you have had a device with wireless charging, it's hard to go back to one without it. It's just so incredibly convenient. Even more convenient than this. The problem is, good quality wireless chargers are pretty pricey and I think of them as more of a luxury than a necessity. You can pick up a decent USB wall charger for 6-10 bucks, but a nice Qi charger is $15-25 (plus you still need a USB wall charger to power the thing). At least they are normally, but not today. Right now you can buy an Anker Qi Wireless charger for just $11.99 on Amazon. At that price I can finally justify picking up a couple more to set up around the house.
