If you're the owner of an Xperia Ion, you've probably been absolutely foaming at the mouth for an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. Today, AT&T announced that the update is available for everyone, just hit up Sony's website and download the Sony companion app for Windows or OS X. It does not appear this will roll out as a standard OTA update, so you'll have to download the app to get it.
You thought today's Google Play promotion was just about apps and games? You thought wrong. Google is going all-out, offering 25 music albums, 25 movies, 25 magazines, and 25 books you can all buy at deeply discounted prices right now (TV shows are not part of the promotion at this time).

T-Mobile Begins Rolling Out HTC One S Update
According to TmoNews, some T-Mobile HTC One S users are receiving an over-the-air update to their devices this morning, bringing a much-awaited bump to Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1.
The now-infamous @evleaks has leaked yet another upcoming smartphone today, this time a T-Mobile-branded version of what is dubbed the HTC "One X+." This phone has been rumored for some time, and even shown up in some Incredible-esque regalia, adding to the rumor that it's headed for Verizon.
Update: We inquired to TI about this news, and here's what a spokesperson had to say:
Going where no book store has gone before (as far as I'm aware), Barnes & Noble announced that it's launching a movie streaming and download service today called NOOK Video. The storefront will offer streaming options from a variety of content partners like Viacom, Warner Bros, HBO, and others. B&N also plans to launch a companion app for the service, which will presumably be available on a variety of Android phones and tablets, as well as the company's Android-powered NOOK tablets.
Update: We have confirmation that this exploit is also fixed in Jelly Bean, as well, so any device running Android 4.1 should be safe.
Hey, do you live in Japan? No? Well that's alright, because you'll still probably be happy to know that Google's first Nexus tablet is expanding its worldwide footprint, and this time it's headed to the land of the rising sun. This also seems to be confirmed on the Japanese Nexus splash page, which lists a price of 19,800 Japanese Yen for the 16GB model.
The Google Play Books app just received a substantial update, bringing the app to version 2.6.31 on compatible devices. Here's the changelog:

Considering we're a little late to the game on our review of Amazon's newest Kindle Fire, you've probably skimmed through the thoughts of various blogs and news outlets, finding quips like "not a great general computing tablet," or "no match for the Nexus 7's / iPad's performance." And they're right.The Fire HD is not a good "tablet" in the sense its competitors are (yet), and it's not really a match for the hardware horsepower of its Google-born arch-nemesis, the Nexus 7. But, like I said in my hands-on, comparing the Fire HD to the Nexus is just kind of a mismatch (though you'll read many comparisons in this review, because a lot people are interested in them). The Fire HD is an odd duck.It's also the future of buying stuff. Not just apps, not just games, or movies, or music. Everything.And that's why the Fire HD isn't actually bad. I mean, there are some parts of it that are bad. The UX needs a lot of work, and the seamless Amazon purchasing experience shows a few cracks here and there. But when you're using it for what it's meant to do, the Fire HD generally shines. Just don't go looking for a "tablet" in the traditional sense of the word when you pick it up, because you'll be sorely disappointed if you do.
Do you enjoy knowing how fast things are? Then Qualcomm's revamped Vellamo suite is probably something you should check out. Vellamo has been the web benchmark of choice on Android for some time now, but this new update brings some major improvements.
Reuters is reporting that Samsung will be amending its counterclaims against Apple in the two companies' second lawsuit in California, currently scheduled for trial in March 2014. Here's what Samsung is saying:

When Adobe announced the end of Flash for Android, it had a particular impact in the UK, as it was the plugin of choice for BBC's iPlayer video streaming service. With Flash for Android now officially discontinued for devices that haven't installed it previously (and all Android 4.1 devices), this is obviously a problem.
CyanogenMod 10 nightlies have finally landed for the international version of HTC's One X, and you can download the first build right here. As the owner of such a One X, I find myself particularly interested in this bit of news, because I'm rather curious how much better this phone will be running stock[-ish] Jelly Bean. The One X is a truly fantastic piece of hardware, but its software has always left something to be desired, especially after you've lived with Sense 4.0 for a few months.
