If you're searching for a deal on flash storage, today may be the day to act: Amazon's Gold Box deal of the day for February 4th includes a sizeable selection of SanDisk cards and flash drives.

When it comes to value-added software on Android phones, I'm typically first in line to call "gimmick!" But today, Sony announced a new service for Xperia phones that actually sounds genuinely useful - my Xperia. It's pretty simple, really. You get a web UI that allows you to track your phone on a map, cause it to emit a sound (it even overrides silent mode), lock it and display a message, or remotely wipe it. And when it comes down to the necessities, those really are the four you need for a "find my phone" solution.

There isn't a lot to say about the newest update to the Yelp app for Android, but that doesn't matter - the one notable change is a biggie. Yelp has finally integrated Google Maps API v2 released back in the beginning of December, which rids Yelpers of the terrible WebView Maps API. The new maps API is hardware accelerated and vector-based, drastically increasing performance and level of detail. You get pan, zoom, tilt, and rotate, along with 3D buildings, indoor building maps, landmark labels, and terrain shading. It's also just a lot faster and smoother.

Finally ruling on a hearing held in early December, Judge Koh decided that Apple's billion-dollar verdict won't be getting any bigger - having formally ruled that Samsung did not infringe Apple's patents willfully. Willful infringement is a concept in patent law that is largely self-explanatory (at least in a non-technical sense): did the defendant purposefully or with wanton disregard for obvious risk infringe the plaintiff's patents?

If you own a French RAZR i, time to start hitting that 'check update' button. The update to Android 4.1.2 is officially beginning to roll out, and in Q1 2013 - as promised.

PhoneArena has obtained an image of something that definitely looks like it could be a white Nexus 4. Here's the photo in question.

According to Bloomberg, the US Department of Justice has just announced that it will submit a deferment request for the Sprint / Softbank merger to the FCC. Telecom acquisitions in the United States require approval from both the DoJ and the FCC, with the former agency focusing largely on potential anti-trust issues. Softbank officially announced the buyout in October.

The Nexus 4 is back in stock on the US Play Store (both the 8GB and 16GB models), as predicted. So, if you want one, go buy it. Now. HURRY. Oh, and the bumper case is available too. The Nexus 4 is also in stock in the German Play Store, though bumper cases do not appear to be available in Deutschland.

Google Wallet received its first significant update in a while today, with a mildly refreshed UI, bug fixes, but no new features. In fact, as Ron points out, references to all the features we were excited about having actually been removed from the app. Like the Wallet Card, and P2P money transfers. It doesn't mean those ideas are dead, per se, but we would guess it does mean they're experiencing some delays. Who knows, they could pop back up at Google I/O. The new version number is 1.6-R96-v13.

Update: The Best Buy page is live and taking orders right now - estimated shipping is 3-5 days. No sign of handsets being sold in-store, unfortunately (no in-store pickup either).

We just received a reliable tip that Verizon has officially discontinued the 32GB flavor of the Galaxy S III, among other Android handsets. Final shipments of the 32GB GSIII have already been received from Samsung, meaning you can expect the remaining stock to dry up over the next month or two (so you'll be able to find it for a while yet). The 16GB Galaxy S III will continue to be available.

Another gigantic phone, you say? Yes indeed - Pantech just announced the 5.9" Vega No. 6 for its home market of South Korea, though there's no reason in particular to expect that's where this mega-phone will stay.

Now that the new-year's CES craziness is at an end, we thought we'd continue where we left off in 2012 - doing awesome giveaways. Today's is no exception, and comes to us courtesy of Basatne, an online electronics retail store that offers hot-ticket gear to buyers from all over the world.

When I saw the handiwork of the two intrepid DIY'ers featured in this post on Nexus 7 car mount projects, I'll admit - I was impressed, if only for their quality execution.

For most people, wireless spectrum is a topic best discussed right before bed with a warm glass of milk. It is boring. But it's important. While landline internet is, as we know, a series of tubes, wireless internet is more like a giant fleet of invisible flying trucks... or something.

Way back in December 2011, Sony began releasing 'alpha' developer ROMs for some of its phones being upgraded to Android 4.0. Then it released beta ROMs that did slightly more stuff. Now it's done the same with Android 4.1 for the Xperia T.
