It has been almost a year since Microsoft first teased the Surface Duo, which was not only the company's first dual-screen phone, but also its first Android device in general (not counting the short-lived Nokia X devices that it acquired along with Nokia). It took a while, but the Duo is finally here. It will be available unlocked and on AT&T, starting at $1,399.

Still hanging on to that Pixel 1 or 2? Now's the time to upgrade

Google's phones typically last a good long while, at least software-wise. And we've seen that in practice, as many Android Police readers browse the site with Pixel 2 and even original Pixel smartphones today. But if you have one of these older phones, you may be getting to the point where an upgrade is finally on the table, and if you are still holding onto an old Pixel (or even Nexus) phone, the Pixel 4a is probably the best phone to come around in years to get you to pull the trigger. And at $350, it's not going to break the bank.No tech product is perfect, but over the past few years, Google has had a tendency to release phones with one or two critical flaws that ruin an otherwise-perfect experience. The Pixel 2 XL suffered from varying display quality (thanks, LG), the Pixel 3 and 3 XL were ridiculed at the time for absurdly-large screen notches and rising prices, the smaller Pixel 4 had below-average battery life, and so on.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has been testing its xCloud competitor on iOS, but now it seems neither product will see a full release on Apple's mobile devices.

A great start for Google's refreshed budget phone

By

Last year's Pixel 3a was a smash hit with buyers, doubling Google's smartphone sales at the time of its release. It looks like Google may have struck gold twice, as the Pixel 4a is currently the best-selling unlocked smartphone at both Amazon and Best Buy.The Pixel 4a is currently sold out on Amazon, though it's still available from the Google Store and select other retailers. It's not necessarily impressive for a product to sell out, since there's no way of knowing how much inventory was available in the first place, but the phone's success is more apparent on Amazon's 'Best Sellers' page for unlocked phones.

Technical advances in gallium nitride (GaN) have enabled wall chargers to push more power while shrinking in size, and Anker's PowerPort Atom PD 2 is a great example of that. Despite only measuring about 3" in width and height, the Atom PD 2 is capable of outputting 60W of electricity, and now you can get it for $20 off its usual price. The PowerPort Atom PD 2 uses the USB-PD quick charging standard, so it can quickly top up flagship Galaxy phones, Pixels, Nintendo Switches, ultrabooks, and other PD-complaint devices. Samsung's new wireless earbuds have been an incredibly poor-kept secret, as the past few months have given us leak after leak. Samsung officially announced the beans-shaped Galaxy Buds Live today, complete with Active Noise Cancellation, 12mm speakers, and an estimated 8-hour battery life. The Galaxy Buds Live are definitely one of the most unique wireless earbuds to date, at least in terms of design. There's also an air vent that helps keep your ears cool, and doubles as a sound gateway for when Active Noise Cancelling is turned off. By comparison, the Galaxy Buds+ uses its exterior microphones to pipe through outside sound when its Ambient Mode is enabled.

OnePlus has developed its own custom flavor of Android for years, nicknamed OxygenOS. The software has some lingering issues, like over-aggressive battery management and a few strange changes compared to stock Android, but it's generally well-regarded among OnePlus fans. T-Mobile starts deploying standalone 5G network with expanded coverage

Device support appears to be extremely limited

By

The rollout of 5G networks across the United States has been complicated and somewhat underwhelming. Most 5G-capable phones are still expensive, and the mmWave-based networks carriers like AT&T and Verizon are building have limited coverage (read: a few city blocks). The situation is starting to look a little better, as T-Mobile today began deploying the world's first standalone 5G network.

Ting has been a popular MVNO carrier for years for folks who doesn't use their phones very much. Much like Google Fi, the network's pricing is oriented towards people who are close to Wi-Fi most of the time, but Ting does stand out with its choice of multiple networks to choose from (it added Verizon just this year).
