About Cameron Summerson

Cameron is a self-made geek, Android enthusiast, horror movie fanatic, musician, and cyclist. When he's not pounding keys here at AP, you can find him spending time with his wife and kids, plucking away on the 6-string, spinning on the streets, or watching The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on repeat.

If you're a long-time Skype user, then you've no doubt seen its many faces and redesigns. Today marks the release of yet another redesign, and this time it actually looks pretty damn good.

So here's the scenario: you're in San Francisco for the first time. You're starving, but have no idea where to go, what's good, or where to even start. What do you do?

If you've ever searched Google for an illness - mostly common stuff, like Pink Eye or Flu - then you've seen the Health Conditions feature. It's a quick-reference card that provides at-a-glance information like symptoms, how common it is, and a lot more.

If there's one thing to say about NVIDIA's support of SHIELD devices, it's that they're doing a pretty dang good job of constantly pushing enhancements to all three devices - SHIELD Portable, SHIELD Tablet, and SHIELD Android TV.

It's been a while since we've seen Samsung do anything in the high-end tablet market; in fact, the original Tab S was probably the last flagship tablet the manufacturer released. But today marks the nationwide availability of that tablet's successor(s), the Tab S2 9.7 and S2 8.0.As the names suggest, this pair packs 9.7-inch and 8.0-inch displays, respectively, both using the 4:3 aspect ratio that many users crave (and equally as many users hate). Otherwise, these are both packing some pretty intense hardware under the hood:

I remember fondly when the word phablet became a thing...though I wish I didn't have to ever think about it. In fact, I had almost forgotten that it was a thing...until Lenovo announced the PHAB Plus, its entry into the huge phone game.

Once upon a time, Amazon made a phone. It was gimmicky and silly, and no one wanted to play with it. After realizing what a horrible mistake it had made, Amazon tried pawning off said phone for stupid-ridiculous prices.

Earlier today, Motorola opened pre-orders for the 2015 Pure Edition Moto X. If you don't really care about Moto Maker or customization at all, then Amazon is the way to go - if you're a Prime member you'll get yours just a couple of days after release. It's slated to be released on the 9th of this month, so you'll most likely be one of the first to get your hands on Moto's newest flagship.

Earlier today, Acer announced a bunch of stuff, including a new gaming tablet called Predator 8. Well, it turns out that it wasn't finished with the mobile gaming stuff, because it also showed off the Predator 6 - a freakin' gaming phone.

If you're running Chrome Beta or Dev editions, then today's changes probably seem like old hat to you. But for everyone else, the stable version of Chrome 45 is a pretty big deal, because it brings Custom Tabs to essentially everyone who's running Android today (on a modern handset, anyway).

Gaming tablet. Those are two words I honestly didn't expect to say side-by-side about anything aside from SHIELD Tablet, but alas, here we are. It looks like Acer thought there should be something more in this market, because it just officially announced its Predator 8 gaming tablet. Sounds mean.

Instagram Direct has been the only way to privately share images and have conversations on the Facebook-owned picture-based social network for a couple of years now. The thing is, every time you want to share a new image privately, you have to start a new thread - even if you want to share something with another user you're already actively having a conversation with.

For most of my life, the Metal Gear Solid series has been my absolute favorite collection of games - right alongside Red Dead Redemption and The Last of Us. Today marks the release of one of the most anticipated games in the MGS series: The Phantom Pain. I'm sure there are quite a few of you who have already made your way over to Game Stop to pick it up, in fact.

I'm going to be honest with you guys: I honestly never though the "learning thermostat" thing would actually be a...thing. A thing that people cared about; a thing that anyone wanted (outside of a select few, anyway). But I was wrong about that. Tons of people have Nest Thermostats, and tons of people love them.[EMBED_YT]https://youtu.be/1qkSkOn4h-A[/EMBED_YT]Today, Nest announced the third generation of its well-received thermostat. It's not a massive upgrade over the previous generation, but there are definitely some decent improvements along for the ride this go. For starters, it's thinner, and the display is larger, giving it a more refined, high-end look. It also has a new feature called "Farsight," which lights the display up when you walk into the room, making it easy to see from a distance...hence the name Farsight. You can choose to see either the temperature, a digital clock face, or an analog clock.

There's no shortage of budgets handsets floating around out there in the States, and Acer just threw its name into the arena with a couple of low-mid-range (that's a thing, right?) handsets: the Liquid Jade Z and Liquid Z410. Catchy.

Inbox by Gmail is sort of an oddball thing...it started out as a simple, "fast" alternative to traditional email. The thing with that is, while convenient at first, it was quickly noticed how much stuff is actually missing. You know, stuff that most users want to use on a daily basis.

We're entering into an era where you no longer have to spend more than a few hundred dollars on a good, usable smartphone. Manufacturers like Blu have done a lot for the budget smartphone, and more mainstream phone makers like Motorola have brought the words "budget" and "flagship" together in a way we didn't think would ever be possible.I've been messing with a new affordable device from a relatively new manufacturer to the scene here lately: the Nuu Z8. Nuu currently has a couple of other budget devices on the market, but the Z8 is what the company is calling its flagship device. With a $250 base price for 16GB and $300 for 32GB, this device is priced somewhat aggressively and spec'd fairly decent for something in this range:

Are you still using the crappy set of earbuds that came with your phone, the cheap set you bought in a pinch at Target, or the ones you've had for like eight years? If so, it's time for an upgrade. And if you're going to do it, you might as well do it right - it's time to move to a killer set of over-the-ear headphones, like the Legacy from A-Audio.

Back in June of last year, I took the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Roar for a spin (and loved it). When Creative pinged me about the Roar's successor, I naturally couldn't wait to get my hands on it - and with a tagline like "Smaller, Lighter, & Sexier," I hoped that it would be even better than its predecessor.Spoiler: it is. This thing is legit. And for a starting price of $170, it's hard to deny that it's one of the best speakers around right now.

It looks like Samsung is anxious to remind people that Samsung Pay is going to be ready for action starting next month, because Sprint just started pushing an update to the S6 and S6 Edge that brings just that (and more) to the handsets.
