About Aatif Sumar

Aatif has been captivated by the green robot since the Galaxy S. He enjoys not crashing flying his drone, night photography, and advocating for the Shield TV. He hasn't lost hope and still thinks a Messiah smartphone with removable batteries, expandable storage, and an IR blaster will one day return to save us all.

While Huawei may be navigating a challenging legal landscape, it doesn't seem to be slowing down with new product development. A new set renders of the upcoming P30 and P30 Pro flagships have leaked over at WinFuture, and they hint at new camera features, like 10x optical zoom and variable aperture.

The Lenovo Smart Display family of devices is now receiving the R6 software update, according to the company forums. While some users have been on R6 since last week, this is a wider roll-out, so all devices should receive the update in the coming days.

Picture this: you're setting the screensaver on your Android TV to show pictures from your Google Photos account, but wait — the account selection page shows hundreds of unknown Google accounts, complete with profile pictures, all showing as linked accounts! This is exactly what happened to at least two Android TV users, on television sets from Vu and iFFalcon (a subsidiary of TCL).

Back in September, Microsoft teased an interesting new feature at its annual Ignite conference: Insert Data from Picture — a combination of OCR (optical character recognition) and AI (unicorn dust) that promises to convert pesky printed material into rows of editable Excel data (the office format of champions). Beta users of Excel for Android were supposed to get the feature "soon," which turned out to be five months later — it's now live, and works pretty well for a first iteration.

Samsung isn't afraid to experiment with different types of notches in its mid-range offerings — having tried it all, from a hole-punch in the Galaxy A8S, to a OnePlus 6T-esque sloping teardrop in the M20, to more traditional bezels in the A9. Two new devices were announced today, the Galaxy A30 and A50, featuring teardrop notches of the Infinity-U design Samsung revealed last fall. These phones are likely headed to the Indian market in the coming week.

Flash storage prices are usually on a downward trajectory, so if you don't need something immediately, it makes sense waiting for a better deal down the line. Sometimes though, we see prices that don't look like they'll come back soon, like in today's sale on SanDisk Ultra microSD cards — with 400GB available for $62 and 200GB for $29.These are SanDisk Ultra microSDXC cards of the UHS-1 spec, with an A1 rating (not that it matters much, app performance will still suck). In the past six months, the 400GB card has dropped from $140 to $100, later to $80, and now to $62. The 200GB card is on sale for $29, down from $35 in a previous sale. At 16¢ and 15¢ a GB respectively, I don't see how these prices can drop lower, but what do I know.SanDisk Ultra cards guarantee a read speed of 100MB/s (with no guaranteed write speed) — this is sufficient for use in a dash cam, Switch, or for media storage on your smartphone. If you'll be recording high framerate 4K footage on a drone or action camera, the SanDisk Extreme line will be a better fit, with read and write speeds of 160 and 90MB/s, and a V30/A2 rating. The 128GB is on sale for , a dollar below the $30 we last mentioned it dropping to, and the 400GB sells for 0, which is $12 below the $122 we last saw it drop to.That's a lot of options to mull over, so I compared the different prices and cost-per-GB values below:

It's been 20 years since Pokémon Snap, the N64 game in which players roamed the Pokémon Island taking pictures of its inhabitants. Two decades later, humans now roam the Earth taking pictures for the Gram. With the similarly-named GO Snapshot feature, a much-requested photo mode for Pokémon GO, Niantic seems to hark back to the past.

Nike recently launched the futuristic self-lacing Adapt BB sneakers, with the Android app going live just last week. Our comments section was full of people discussing dystopian futures with rebellious footwear, and they didn't have to wait long — the shoes seem to be bricking during the initial software update itself.

Galaxy Unpacked is almost upon us, but if the leaks don't stop, there won't be much left to unpack at the event tomorrow. While renders and hands-on images of the S10 family have been popping up for a few weeks, we now have an official Samsung television commercial that aired a day early in Norway, showing us the Galaxy S10+ in its entirety.

Sunday mornings are for pancakes from scratch, washing the car, and evaluating your Bluetooth speaker needs. I can help with that last one — this Altec Lansing Baby Boom speaker went on sale last night for $10, and with decent specs and good reviews, its a tempting buy.

Tasker, the Android automation behemoth, is a tool limited only by your imagination — it has been used for everything from improving personal workflows to interfacing with enterprise systems. In the newest beta release, 5.7.0-beta, developer Joaomgcd demoed an interesting new feature, "Say Wavenet", which brings natural sounding Text-to-Speech to Tasker using Google's WaveNet algorithm (the same technology that powers Assistant responses).

It's been less than a year since the new Gmail web UI rolled out, and the client has been steadily gaining new features , like snoozing of email. For a service as versatile as Gmail, the right-click context menu has been rather sparsely populated, with just four actions available. There's good news today — soon twelve commonly-used actions will be possible through the right-click menu.

Nest, the Google-owned smart home company, is known for making excellent (albeit expensive) products that integrate well in Google Home ecosystems. Target now has the Nest Indoor Cam 3-Pack on sale for $279 — 30% off its MSRP and the lowest price we've ever seen.

Google Station is a program in developing countries, where local partners and Google tie up to bring free Wi-Fi to high traffic locations like railway and bus stations. Piloted in India in 2016, the program then expanded to Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Thailand, even rolling out to college campuses and hospitals. It's now coming to a sixth location: the Philippines.

Worry not — come February 17th, and you can charge your shoes too, with the self-lacing Nike Adapt BB sneakers. These smart shoes were announced last month, and their companion Android app is now live on the Play Store.

Even if your phone still has a headphone jack, Bluetooth earbuds are a lot more convenient when you're out and about. The Aukey Latitude EP-B40 Bluetooth earbuds have been around for a while, amassing 1,500 Amazon reviews with an overall rating of 3.7 stars, and they're on sale today for $18. That's $12 off the usual price of $30, and lower than the $20 deal we'd seen previously.

While high-end smartphones may be getting more expensive, a lot of average consumers could do just fine with a mid-range phone. The Moto X4 is one such device, and the 32GB/3GB RAM variant is currently on sale from $140 at multiple retailers.

TV manufacturers usually launch new models in March and April, so you can get some great clearance deals in the preceding months. Today, we have a 49" 4K LED TV from Hisense (HIS49H6E) selling for $220 at Walmart stores. Unlike some previous Walmart deals, you can order this online with free shipping or in-store pickup.

When it comes to using a calculator, have you been tapping buttons like a peasant? Those days are now behind you — French developer MyScript has launched its second-generation app MyScript Calculator 2, a handwriting-gesture-driven calculator that promises to translate your ugly scrawls into numbers. Its previous app, the free-to-download MyScript Calculator, racked up over 10M downloads with an average of 4.5 stars over 347K reviews on the Play Store. While Calculator 2 is a paid app, selling for $2.99, the developer has made it free for the first week.
