Scoreloop Adds PayPal Payment Solution - Hello Google? You Home?

Scoreloop Adds PayPal Payment Solution - Hello Google? You Home?

While we all wait for Google to officially institute PayPal as a payment option in the Android Market, Scoreloop has decided to beat Google to it by including it in their latest update. Developers who use Scoreloop with their games can now use PayPal to offer in-game purchases to gamers.

Freemium

In-game purchasing is the key to many games success, and its implementation is essential if Google would like to lure developers to their platform.

Google Teaches Us To "Walk This Way" With Google Maps 4.5

Google Teaches Us To "Walk This Way" With Google Maps 4.5

Google's on a roll today with app updates; first it was the new Google Voice featuring not one, but two widgets, and now they're rolling out a new version of Google Maps which promises to teach us to "walk this way."

The update includes a feature called "Walking Navigation," which is essentially turn-by-turn navigation, only for pedestrians and not drivers. It is now able to:

  • provide up-to-the minute walking directions to from where you stand now to your destination, complete with blue and white arrows to indicate where you stand and where you should go
  • provide more direct routes
  • offer voice guidance (which can be turned off)
  • a map that rotates as you rotate
  • turn on satellite imagery by default
  • vibrate your phone when you need to make a turn

Revolutionary it may not be, but it's certainly an improvement over the feature it replaces, "Walking Directions."

Google Voice Widgets Break Out Of G2's Deathgrip, Now Available In The Market

Google Voice Widgets Break Out Of G2's Deathgrip, Now Available In The Market

To nobody's surprise, the G2, announced this morning, features a Google Voice widget.

What may be surprising is that there are not one, but two of these widgets: a widget that shows the messages you have in your inbox:

as well as the same widget for managing your Voice settings that was leaked a few weeks ago:

What may be an even bigger surprise is that Google has now made both of these widgets available to non-G2 devices through the Android Market.

Motorola Droid 2 R2-D2 Special Edition Live Wallpapers Leaked, Available For Download

The R2D2 is coming later this month, but in the meantime P3Droid from MyDroidWorld ripped apart the system dump and weeded out the special edition Star Wars themed live wallpapers. He was also kind enough to shoot a few handy videos demonstrating them, and I must say, they're pretty cool and will definitely be appreciated by any Star Wars fan. Kudos, P3.

Update: The static wallpapers have now been leaked as well.

Camera ZOOM FX Review + Giveaway

Camera ZOOM FX Review + Giveaway

When it comes to photo editing on the fly, there are usually two kinds of apps: those intended for mindless fun, and those intended for actual work. Without a doubt, Camera ZOOM FX falls into the latter category, along with its mediocre UI, strange (though not necessarily poor) selection of effects, and (relatively) low price tag. So is it worth a look? A purchase? Read on for the full Android Police review.

[App Of The Week] Multicon - Reclaim Your Home Screen Real Estate

[App Of The Week] Multicon - Reclaim Your Home Screen Real Estate

Even though I have 7 home screens on my EVO 4G, I still sometimes find myself cramped for space. I have a whole bunch of apps and shortcuts that I would like to have instant access to. Enter Multicon.

The function of Multicon is to make widgets that pack in a number of downsized icons in the space that would normally be occupied by only single ones. This enables you to pack a large number of app shortcuts onto a home screen that only fits 16 by default (on most handsets).

Irony: Adobe May Be Killing Flash On Motorola Droid/Milestone

Irony: Adobe May Be Killing Flash On Motorola Droid/Milestone

We've pinged our contact at Adobe for clarification, but this could be some fantastic irony: Adobe has raised the minimum requirements for Flash. Specifically, the minimum CPU requirement for mobile devices with WVGA resolutions has been bumped up to a Cortex A8 running at 800 MHz. With its 550 MHz CPU, the Droid/Milestone no longer meets the minimum.

We're not sure yet if this is retroactive - in other words, will the Droid receive an update that removes Flash support?

Today, Jamezelle and I ripped apart the leaked system dump from the yet-to-be-released Verizon Samsung Fascinate and patched together six live wallpapers that are not present on other Galaxy S devices.

Like the previous Galaxy S live wallpapers, these must be flashed from a custom recovery, which also means you need to be rooted.

Download the zip below and flash it through your recovery menu like any other flashable zip.

Official CNET News App Lands In The Android Market

The official app for one of the most popular and trusted tech news websites on the internet, CNET.com, has made its grand entrance into the Android Market a few days ago. The app's layout is clean and easy to navigate, thanks to the crafty hands of Treemo Labs' Ian Clifton who CNET/CBS hired to develop the project.

The CNET Experience

The CNET News app has a whole lot of great features that you would expect from such a popular website as well as a few really cool features you probably weren't expecting.
