BioLock To Bring Biometric Security (Iris Scanner, Facial Recognition) To Android In Late August

BioLock To Bring Biometric Security (Iris Scanner, Facial Recognition) To Android In Late August

Smartphones are rapidly taking over some daily functions previously dominated by our laptops and personal computers, so securing these mobile devices is becoming an increasingly important issue. Information thieves are after your data via malicious software from which you can reasonably protect yourself by being careful; but what about physical device thieves?

There have been a few solutions, such as the native lock screen options (particularly in Froyo) and various remote lock/wipe/track apps, such as WaveSecure, but a new solution is about to become available – BioLock, a biometric security app from Blue Planet Apps.

BlindType Keyboard To Come To Android - Type Anywhere On Your Phone's Screen, Even With No Keyboard Present

In a market that is rapidly becoming saturated, we have yet another entry. BlindType is a replacement software keyboard, but it’s one with a little twist. As the name might suggest, BlindType seeks to remove the visual aspect of typing on your smartphone’s software keyboard. Know the QWERTY layout by heart? This keyboard is for you.

Irrespective of where you tap on the screen, BlindType can figure out where on the keyboard you meant to hit by comparing the positions of your previous keypresses.

PayPal’s Android App Updated, Brings New Bump And Split The Check Features

PayPal’s Android App Updated, Brings New Bump And Split The Check Features

Just like the recent update to Facebook for Android (minus the battery draining issues), PayPal’s Android application has just received an update which puts it on par with its iOS counterpart.

Along with a heavily refined UI, the latest version includes two major new features. Bump, which allows you to share money with a friend by tapping your phones together, and Split the Check, which can calculate the cost of a bill for each person and allow them to all pay their portion simultaneously.

[Updated: Facebook Addresses The Issue] Flipz (Of Fresh ROMs): Facebook 1.3 Eats Battery. Hardcore

A few days ago, we reported that the Facebook app had been updated, and now included “less suck”; turns out we may have been wrong (that pun will make sense in a minute). Flipz, the developer behind the awesome Fresh ROM’s, has done his homework and found that the updated Facebook App has a wake lock bug that drains the battery fairly significantly.

As mentioned, the problem arises from the wake lock.

Facebook For Android Updated To Version 1.3 - Now With Less Suck

Facebook released an updated version of their Android app today and finally addressed many reported issues – namely, that it was underpowered in comparison to the Facebook app for the iPhone, or even the mobile site. Tonight’s update brings a slew of improvements, raising the app to a level that puts it on par with its sister app on iOS.

[Hands On] Gmote: Master Your PC’s Media Using Your Android Phone

[Hands On] Gmote: Master Your PC’s Media Using Your Android Phone

I watch a lot of movies on my TV through my PC (rather than my 360, since Netflix says I have to have a Live Gold membership – stupid). This setup works just fine, since my PC sits right under my TV anyway, so my couch is just a few feet away. However, this means that any time I want to control the movie, I have to get up and go to the computer to do so – a definite pain.

WaveSecure (Phone Recovery And Security App) Developer Acquired By McAfee: McAfee For Android Coming Soon?

WaveSecure (Phone Recovery And Security App) Developer Acquired By McAfee: McAfee For Android Coming Soon?

It was only 5 days ago we offered up our readers licenses to tenCube’s phone security and locator app, WaveSecure. We were utterly impressed by the app’s rich feature set, and its clear focus on presenting itself in a professional and well-polished fashion.

Apparently McAfee was of a similar opinion. In a lengthy press release (shown below), McAfee announced they had acquired tenCube (who develop WaveSecure). What does it mean? We’ll probably be seeing a McAfee-branded WaveSecure hitting the Android Market fairly soon, perhaps sporting some exciting new features.

Milestone Reached: Android App Markets Reach 100,000 Submitted And 83,000 Active Applications

Today marks the first time we see the number "100,000" associated with the Android Market. Or, wait, no we don't - remember this, this, this, and about 5 million other posts? Let me try again.

Today marks the first time Android actually crossed the 100,000 apps mark, a whole month early from my earlier September projection, if we go by the unofficial app count from AndroLib.com:

Don't be confused by the discrepancies in the official count and AndroLib - as we explained before, they count many markets (not just the official Android Market) and don't account for unpublished apps.
