Launcher Pro v0.7.9.0 Update Introduces Friends Widget, Customizable Homescreen Grid Size, Bug Fixes

Launcher Pro v0.7.9.0 Update Introduces Friends Widget, Customizable Homescreen Grid Size, Bug Fixes

Today, Launcher Pro, one of the best homescreen replacements for Android, got a nice update, introducing a couple of new features and bug fixes. I replaced the bloated Sense UI on my EVO with Launcher Pro Plus about 2 weeks ago, and ever since then, half of my co-workers did the same, seeing what it can do.

The new update finally introduces a customizable number of icon columns and rows, which is no longer limited to 4 or 5.

New In The Android Market: MiniSquadron - The Definition Of Addictive [Game Review]

The barren desert that is gaming on Android has been with us for as long as the platform itself, and it appears that it is only now changing, with the release of games like Angry Bird and Fruit Ninja. The newly released MiniSquadron looks to be another one of those games that attempt to bring the quality level up to that of iOS, featuring OpenFeint alongside some of the most addictive gameplay I've ever seen from an Android game.

Love Yourself Some Plants Vs Zombies On Your Android Device? Leave Devil Alone Is A Very Decent Clone That Just Hit The Market

Love Yourself Some Plants Vs Zombies On Your Android Device? Leave Devil Alone Is A Very Decent Clone That Just Hit The Market

Plants Vs Zombies

I loved Plants Vs Zombies on my PC. LOVED it. I don't get excited by games much anymore but Plants Vs Zombies by PopCap captured my full attention for weeks when it just came out a couple of years back. A version for the iPhone came out later and enjoyed similar success to the original game. PopCap's Android page, however, has been quite empty. Literally:

Will PopCap ever release an Android variant?

Problems Updating System Apps With CyanogenMod 6 On Your Nexus One? Download The App Update Pack

It turns out that some Nexus One owners running CyanogenMod 6 (CM6) have been experiencing issues when trying to update a handful of system apps. As such, XDA-Devs forum member unforgiven512 has thrown the updates into a tidy package. The updated apps are:

  • Amazon MP3
  • Google Maps
  • Google Search
  • Google Voice
  • ROM Manager
  • Street View
  • Superuser
  • TalkBack
  • Twitter
  • Voice Search
  • Not only does this fix the app updating bug, but it moves the app info from the "data" partition to the "system" partition.

Total Equipment Coverage/Insurance For Verizon Customers Now Includes Free Mobile Recovery Software

Good news for those of you with Verizon phones and a 'Total Equipment Coverage' insurance plan. VZW have just let us know that they are partnering with Asurion to provide some useful security functions for Android owners. The free Mobile Recovery application includes the ability to remotely:

    • Sound an alarm on the phone, even when on silent
    • Locate the phone using GPS, with maps and directions to the handset
    • Lock or wipe the phone, if it is irretrievable

Sounds pretty great for a free service (if you have the qualifying insurance, obviously), and may help to soothe any envious pangs you felt following the demonstration of HTCSense.com’s

Zune Home Gives You That Zune HD Vibe, Tegra Sold Separately

Apart from SlideScreen, it seems like pretty much every alternative Android launcher out there is a slightly different version of the same thing; namely, the stock Android launcher. Well, SlideScreen is no longer alone. With Zune Home, we have something rather familiar but entirely different to what we’ve seen before on Android.

As the name would suggest, Zune Home is an homage to the laudably sleek interface found on Microsoft’s Zune HD portable media player.

HTC Sense Will Support Map Pre-Caching In Its Latest Upgrade

HTC Sense Will Support Map Pre-Caching In Its Latest Upgrade

Yesterday, Engadget got some hands-on time with the brand new HTC Sense upgrade that will debut on the Desire HD and the Desire Z. It will support all kinds of crazy stuff we've been waiting for like remote wiping, phone location, and backing up to and restoring data from HTCSense.com. Another cool feature is map pre-caching, which means that the phone will have pre-loaded maps on it.

The end result is a much more responsive map experience, allowing you to zoom in and out and pan around with "no waiting".

Control Your Music Player Using LauncherPro, Be Awesome

Control Your Music Player Using LauncherPro, Be Awesome

It looks like user Rock_Harder over at the XDA community has solved a problem most people didn't even realize they had. If you, like many people, are faced with the issue of where to put the music widget on your homescreen, he's got you covered.

Essentially, his dilemma was that he simply didn't have the real estate to place the music widget effectively. He uses LauncherPro and had some of those handy extra dock icons laying around so, using all of his cunning and wit, Remoter was born.

[App Of The Week] DiskUsage Helps Uncover Your Phone's Internal And SD Card Fat Deposits

    Introduction

If you're like most Android users, you may run into slight space issues when it comes to available internal storage for apps. The daunting task you face, then, is to go through each of your apps and locate the major megabyte offenders. What a pain.

Alternatively, you may discover that your precious SD card is suddenly refusing to write a new episode of the Stuff You Should Know podcast (which is awesome), so  now you have to drop everything to figure out where the fat is.
