The much-anticipated release of Mario Kart Tour this September (after an extended period of testing) was a bit of a letdown. The game was riddled with excessive in-app-purchases, had a questionable loot box mechanism, and lacked a multiplayer component — arguably the selling point of the entire Mario Kart series. At the time, the in-game-menu said that multiplayer was "inbound", and we now know more details. Read More
Google hasn't announced Stadia in a vacuum; game streaming services have been in the works for years, with varying degrees of success. The technology to provide virtually lag-free, high-end graphics over miles of cables and Wi-Fi networks has only recently become robust enough. Thus, it comes as no surprise that Microsoft on Tuesday announced the public preview of its own remote gaming service xCloud, available starting next month. Read More
Shortly after the disappearance of EA's Tetris titles on the Play Store, the new mobile Tetris license holder N3twork has published a classic alternative. A year ago, I wrote about the preview build for Grand Mountain Adventure, a gorgeous skiing game that most definitely deserved the attention. In March of this year, the game was officially launched on the Google Play Store and has so far amassed over 300,000 downloads with a solid 4.4-star rating. Unfortunately, EA is ending its run with Tetris and will be abandoning the games in April. Read More
Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall is a new collection-based strategy RPG that's coming to Android this summer, and it's already available on the Play Store for pre-registration. The story takes place a few decades before the timeline of the books and TV show, which means this upcoming release will serve as a prequel of sorts. Read More
D3 Go! has announced today that its next mobile game is called G.I. Joe: War On Cobra, and it will be officially launched on Android on January 20th. The title is already available for pre-registration on the Play Store, and for the most part, it would seem that this will exist as a branded release that contains the same amalgamation of gameplay mobile gaming is best known for. So if you're looking to play yet another gacha game that's betting on '80s nostalgia to get people interested in a title built around the same shallow card-based strategy mechanics we've all experienced over and over again, I suppose G.I.
