Google has been offering free perks to Chromebook owners for a while now. These perks have ranged from access to free games to access to streaming services like Disney+ or even Stadia. The latest perk added to the growing list is a free copy of Dead Cells, a fantastic indie metroidvania game that would usually run everyone $8.99 on the Play Store. This perk will be available until August 7th, 2021, providing everyone ample opportunity to grab one of the best platformers available on Chrome OS and Android.
Sid Meier's Civilization series has been a mainstay on PCs since the first game's release in 1991, though developer Firaxis has occasionally dabbled in console and mobile titles. The last game to make an appearance on Android was Civilization Revolution 2 in 2014, a simplified version of the usual Civ formula, but now a full-blown port of the latest main game has arrived on Android.
EVE Echoes has been a long time coming, thanks to COVID, but we are finally nearing the official release. This title will exist as a mobile version of the mainline sandbox MMO, and we've known since July that the game would be officially launched on the Play Store on August 13th. Lo and behold EVE Echoes is available for download a day early, you simply won't be able to play until tomorrow (8/13) when the game's servers go live at 4:00 AM EST.
Welcome to Wednesday, everyone. After a strong start to the week things have calmed down, but I still have a few noteworthy sales to share with everyone today. First and foremost, Root Explorer is on sale today, which is a fantastic file explorer for root users. If games are more your interest, then you can pick up the colorful puzzler Railways at a steep discount as well as the meditative adventure game EQQO. It would also appear that TAITO is offering a bunch of sales on its arcade games, such as Space Invaders and Raystorm. As always, I've highlighted all of the interesting titles in bold to make discovery easier.
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note20 Ultra is premium as all get-out, packing the beefiest specs money can buy in 2020, including a Snapdragon 865+, 12 gigs of RAM, and a 6.9-inch 120Hz display. That spread is particularly good for gaming, but not every game can take full advantage of the giant display's high refresh rate. But a bunch can! Here's a handy searchable list of high refresh rate games you can try on the Note20 Ultra.
Kabam and Netmarble are teaming up once again with Marvel to bring a new real-time RPG to Android. This title is known as Marvel Realm of Champions, and it will serve duty as the followup to Marvel Contest of Champions. It's expected to land sometime in 2020. Apparently, Realm of Champions will offer a reimagining of the Marvel Universe that's set on Battleworld, a forbidden planet hidden behind the Space-Time Barrier recently disrupted by the death of Maestro, the God-King. This results in a universe-wide battle themed around the Secret Wars event from 1984.
Last week, we reported Microsoft's game streaming service xCloud would launch on September 15 and that it would initially require an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Although there's still more than a month left until the service officially becomes available, Microsoft is allowing people to beta test it starting today.
Welcome to the roundup of the new Android games that went live in the Play Store or were spotted by us in the previous week or so. Today I have Ubisoft's mobile release for Brawlhalla, a free-to-play Smash Bros. clone. I also have a fantastic Rocket League clone from Noodlecake Studios as well as the official release for Electronic Art's Madden NFL 21 Mobile Football. So without further ado, here are the new and notable Android games released during the week of August 3rd, 2020.
