Official CNET News App Lands In The Android Market

The official app for one of the most popular and trusted tech news websites on the internet, CNET.com, has made its grand entrance into the Android Market a few days ago. The app's layout is clean and easy to navigate, thanks to the crafty hands of Treemo Labs' Ian Clifton who CNET/CBS hired to develop the project.

The CNET Experience

The CNET News app has a whole lot of great features that you would expect from such a popular website as well as a few really cool features you probably weren't expecting.

SwiftKey Receives A Substantial Update - Multitouch, Better Voice Recognition, Less Lag

One of the more popular tip-tap software keyboards got a nice little upgrade today. SwiftKey, an aftermarket keyboard that uses intelligent statistical methods as well as scanning of your SMS inbox to predict the most likely next word, now has support for multitouch typing. As seen previously on the Droid X’s keyboard, this greatly enhances possible typing speeds… unless you have one of HTC’s infamously erroneous older touchscreen panels, that is.

[Epic Lulz Thursday] Prank Your Friends With Shavester And Watch Them Freak Out

I'm not usually a supporter of apps that don't have much of a purpose, especially the ones that fall under the "pranks" category. Now, I say "usually" because most of the time these apps are pretty stupid (I'm looking at you, iFarts) or not very prank-worthy.

Rarely, however, worthy apps do come out, and the recent Shavester is one of them - it caught my attention due to the freakout potential of turning your merry friends into something like Britney here, except not as happy, if only for just a few seconds.

App Roundup: Hurricane Season Edition

With the Atlantic hurricane season ratcheting up and several named storms expected to form before the season ends on Nov. 30th, it makes sense for those of us in potential hurricane zones to look for an app that will help keep an eye on developing tropical systems. For example, Hurricane Danielle has dissipated in the North Atlantic, but Earl is expected to hit the East Coast before the end of the week and Fiona is hot on its heels.

Rockbox For Android Now Semi-Functional

The popular, open-source media player firmware Rockbox has recently been made available for Android. Rather than run as an operating system, Rockbox operates as a standalone application that you can install as usual with an APK. Development is still on-going, but Rockbox dev kugel has a few pre-compiled APKs hosted for you to try out if you’re interested.

Real HDMI Unlocks Motorola Droid X's Crippled HDMI Functionality

A few months back (before it launched), we found out that the Droid X would have limited HDMI functionality - mainly, it would only work in gallery mode. Today, we stumbled upon a new app on AppBrain called Real HDMI that seems to remove that restriction. Check out the item description:

Warning: This only works for the Droid X.

Finally you can enable and disable the HDMI port on your Droid X.
