For a while, ZTE and Alcatel seemed like they were in a bit of a race to be the first company to release an Android Go phone in the US. Two weeks ago, Alcatel announced that its 1X would be coming stateside sometime soon, and ZTE had the Tempo Go listed but unavailable on its US site since just after its announcement. Today you can finally buy one, and it's only $79.99.
That officially makes the ZTE Tempo Go the first Android Go phone in the US. Read More
It's been almost a year since Google unveiled Android Go, now technically known as Android Oreo (Go Edition), but devices you can actually buy are few and far between. In fact, only ZTE has committed to launching a Go device in the US. Now, Alcatel is announcing plans to launch the 1X in the US, too. The phone was shown off at MWC a few weeks ago. The specs are modest, but it'll cost under $100. Read More
Android Go was first introduced by Google at I/O in May 2017, so it's been a long wait for real devices running the slimmed-down Oreo experience. We hoped Mobile World Congress in Barcelona would be when OEMs began launching Android Go phones, and this was confirmed by Google last week. Read More
It's been a while since Google first talked about Android Go at last year's I/O, but the first phones are finally appearing. There are several Go devices making their debut here at Mobile World Congress, and we've spent some time using one and talking to Google about what consumers can expect from Android Go. The Nokia phone brand has been on quite a journey since its heyday in the late nineties and early two-thousands (or aughts, as David would have me write it). After Nokia's smartphone business was sold to Microsoft and became the Windows Phone flagbearer while that was still a thing, the baton has now been passed to HMD Global. HMD has been releasing Android phones under the Nokia name for just over a year now, and it's fair to say the brand is stronger than it has been for a very long time.
At MWC 2018 here in Barcelona, HMD has added to its already burgeoning phone lineup with four devices, three of which are part of the Android One program and an ultra-low-cost Android Go phone. Read More
Just two days ago, we learned that the first devices running Google's new 'Android Go' platform would be announced next week at Mobile World Congress. Now it appears Alcatel has jumped the gun a bit, and unveiled the world's first Android Go phone alongside a slew of other devices. It's called the 1X, and it's not much different from a typical budget phone, except for the software. Read More
Android Go was announced almost a year ago, at Google I/O 2017. It's a modified version of Android, designed to function better on low-end hardware (think 512MB phones). Google said the first Go phones would ship in 2018, and even though several Go apps have been released on the Play Store, no devices have hit the market yet. Read More
