US unlocked Galaxy S7 and S7 edge finally receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

All four major US carriers pushed the Android 8.0 Oreo to their Galaxy S7 and S7 edge variants back in June. AT&T, surprisingly, took the lead, with Verizon shortly behind. Sprint came in next, and T-Mobile took last place. One and a half months after the update first started rolling out in the US, Samsung is finally pushing Oreo to the US unlocked S7 and S7 edge models (SM-G93xU).

Google's July 2018 Android platform update shows Oreo usage more than doubling since May

We get it, Google. You're busy with a lot of things, and platform distribution updates can fall by the wayside. Still, the most recent two-month gap was unusual. Someone finally had time to spit out new numbers today, and it's actually rather good news. Oreo usage is up to 12.2% across both versions, which is more than double where it was back in May.

We're big fans of the Android One-powered Xiaomi Mi A1 here at AP. Its combination of a handsome design, top-of-the-line software, great performance, and solid battery life makes it one of the best budget phones out there (even if it's not officially sold in the US). The phone received Android 8.0 Oreo just before 2018 kicked off, but it's taken until now for 8.1 Oreo to roll out. Unfortunately, it comes with two pretty major bugs.

TCL is starting an invitation-only Oreo beta for the KEYone

The BlackBerry KEYone launched a year ago with Android Nougat, and today it still runs Android Nougat. Oh sure, there have been regular security patches over the months, but the lack of an OS update after more than six months of Oreo availability is embarrassing. TCL is taking the first step toward making the OTA happen, though. There's an Oreo beta for the KEYone, but you need an invite.

Android 8.0 Oreo rolling out to Verizon Moto Z Play

The original Moto Z Play was released in 2016, and originally shipped with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. An update to Android 7.0 started rolling out in March 2017, and a 7.1.1 update came in June. The unlocked US model received 8.0 Oreo in May of this year, but only now is the Verizon model (also known as Moto Z DROID Edition) being updated.

Android 8.0 Oreo rolls out to the LG G6 on T-Mobile

T-Mobile has finally gotten around to pushing Oreo to the LG G6. This will be its first major update since launching, but it's still only landing on 8.0 rather than 8.1. At least it's an update. Feel free to head to the update menu and mash the button, but you'll probably have to wait a few days to get it on your device.

When you've coughed up several hundreds of dollars for a brand new TV, the last thing you want to worry about is whether it will get firmware updates over the next few years or become outdated. But such is the state of our modern world that this is a question we do have to ask ourselves. Samsung's dual-SIM Galaxy S7 Duos for the Chinese market is now receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update

Several variants of the Galaxy S7 have already received their Android 8.0 Oreo updates, but definitely not all. AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint have pushed the update out in the US, and some international models have gotten Oreo as well. Xiaomi started rolling out an update to Android Oreo 8.0 to its Mi Box early last month, but that was a limited test with only a few devices receiving the OTA. Now, it seems that the update is being released to all; users around the world have reported seeing the notification and successfully getting their boxes up to 8.0.
