Google continues to tease Google Pay access in the power menu

Soon after Google released the December security patches for the Pixel phones, it followed up with a changelog detailing which new user-facing features have made it in. Among those, the company also teased a "Fix for Pixel Wallet display in power menu" in reference to the quick Google Pay shortcut seen in a beta version of Android 10. Since we never found any evidence of the functionality's availability in the stable release, we asked Google about it. That led the company to rewrite the changelog twice to finally say that it's currently an experiment that may roll out in a future update.

At Google I/O, Google teased a new impressive feature coming to Android, Live Caption. Whether you're deaf, hard of hearing, in a loud environment, or without headphones in a setting that requires silence, Live Caption can automatically transcribe what's being said in a video or audio on your screen. It seems impressive and it'll be coming to the Pixel 4 at launch. Pixel 3 and 3a users will get it in December. (Update: And they just did.)

Android 10 now supports gesture navigation with third-party launchers on older Pixels

Google's new gesture navigation system for Android 10 has been divisive for numerous reasons, not the least of which it didn't work with third-party launchers. The company committed to fixing this issue in a future Android release, and it appears that fix is already live on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL (Update: And all Pixels excluding the 2016 models, as of the December patches). Launchers like Nova can use the full gesture setup, so that's one shortcoming out of the way.

Android 10 beta testing for ASUS’ last two flagships — the ZenFone 6 and the ZenFone 5Z — is already underway since August, though only for a small, closed group. The early ZenUI version for the 5Z reportedly came laden with a long list of bugs that essentially held off its public release for a while. ASUS appears to have addressed many of those flaws, and is now making the ZenUI 6 open beta available to a wider userbase of its 2018 flagship.

(Update: International schedule) Color OS 7 will soon bring Android 10 to Oppo phones

Oppo has made a concerted effort to sell more products in Europe recently, with its Reno 10x Zoom fronting its campaign. The hardware has been pretty impressive, but the software experience still leaves a little to be desired — Color OS isn't as well received by western users. This situation could be set to improve soon though, as Oppo has unveiled the latest version of its skin, based on Android 10.

Android 10's missing features: All the stuff that never made it into the final update

Android 10's beta period was a wild ride, with new implementations of gesture navigation and tweaks to notifications happening on a monthly basis. The active development cycle also meant some previously-announced functionality has been removed, while other features have yet to show up at all. We expected at least a few of them to end up as Pixel-exclusive features, and while a few did end up that way (like a system theme picker), others never materialized at all. These are Android 10's 'lost' features.
