[Update: Play Store 6.0] Play Store 5.10 Adds New Google Play Logo, Updated UI, But You May Need To Wait For It [APK Download]

[Update: Play Store 6.0] Play Store 5.10 Adds New Google Play Logo, Updated UI, But You May Need To Wait For It [APK Download]

Well, we know a big redesign is in store for Google Play (see here, here, here, and here), but today's 5.10.29 update doesn't actually include that. Technically, it might be that these big design changes are controlled on the server side and simply waiting to be activated for end users, but we just don't know yet. Update: Confirmed, see updates below. Regardless, today's update is probably at the least laying the groundwork for the new version, and does include one noticeable visual alteration: the new Google Play text logo.

[Copy All The Things!] You Can Now Copy Changelogs And App Descriptions Using Android Play Store App

Earlier today, Kirill Grouchnikov, the face behind the Play Store Android app, detailed a set of relatively substantial design tweaks and RTL language support destined for an upcoming update. Unfortunately, the APK uploaded to APK Mirror shortly after did not seem to have the majority of these changes live just yet, but Kirill, who also announced his departure from the Google Play team, managed to sneak in one last parting gift.

And it's the best gift he could have possibly given us. Or at least me, considering I copy changelogs all day long for APKMirror.com. I think I now owe him 100 beautiful white roses.

Mysterious 'Play Daily' And 'Dogfood Apps' Buttons Show Up In The Play Store, Likely By Mistake

Mysterious 'Play Daily' And 'Dogfood Apps' Buttons Show Up In The Play Store, Likely By Mistake

Something interesting is happening on the Play Store this evening. Users are reporting mysterious "Play Daily" and "Dogfood Apps" buttons appearing on the store's home and apps pages, respectively.

The Play Daily button - at the time of writing - leads to an error page (the app gets a 500 error trying to reach https://android.clients.google.com/fdfe/daily), while the "Dogfood Apps" button leads somewhat predictably to a special apps collection called "Google Apps for Googlers." Inside the collection is, well, a bunch of Google apps including apps from Google Samples like Pie Noon and VoltAir. Worth noting is that the Play Store is not dispensing actual dogfood apps from this collection, just the normal variants that are always exposed to the public.

[Update: APK Download] Google Play Store v5.8 Rolling Out With Hamburger-Arrow Morphing Animation

Googler Kirill Grouchnikov likes to clue everyone into the subtle design tweaks in upcoming versions of the Play Store as they roll out, and today he's posted not once, not twice, but three times about a slick new hamburger animation. Is that overkill? I don't know... it's a pretty cool animation.

Next Play Store Update Will Include Tweaks To 'Characters' Section Animation And What's New Box [Update: APK Download]

Googler Kirill Grouchnikov likes to show off the little UI flourishes in the Play Store, sometimes even before they are live for users. We like the small stuff, and you probably do too. So you'll be happy to know there are two subtle UI tweaks incoming with the next Play Store update. One is in the kids "character" section and the other is in the What's New box we all know and love.

[Update: 5.5.12] Play Store 5.5 Brings A Spiffy Circular Animation To Page Transitions (TV Shows Only) And Popular Opinion Review Blurbs [APK Download]

[Update: 5.5.12] Play Store 5.5 Brings A Spiffy Circular Animation To Page Transitions (TV Shows Only) And Popular Opinion Review Blurbs [APK Download]

With Android 5.0, Google said it's not enough to make everything flat and colorful. The company injected animations into certain apps, and it has been rolling out more ever since. According to Googler Kirill Grouchnikov, a bold new one is set to arrive in the next version of the Play Store.

As you can see in the video, each Play Store item turns into a bubble when clicked. That bubble then floats to the top of the screen where it pops (or expands, if you're not feeling the metaphor) into the next screen. The page then shrinks back into a bubble when you're ready to go back.

Stock Android Isn't Perfect: Lollipop Edition

Stock Android Isn't Perfect: Lollipop Edition

Of course, now that we've posted Getting To Know Android: Lollipop Edition, it's time to get picky and have a look at the things that still need fixing. As always, we'll be running through some of the issues hanging around in the latest iteration of Android, and taking a look at what's been fixed since our last Stock Android Isn't Perfect post.

Fixes and Updates

Lollipop, as I said in the other post, is probably the biggest change Android has ever seen, so some issues from KitKat have simply disappeared, while others have been fixed in their own ways. We'll take a look at what's changed from our last SAIP entry, and then continue on with the new nitpicks as necessary.
