The Walking Dead: Survivors finally has an official release date

The Play Store recently received a new title for pre-registration, and it's an upcoming Walking Dead game themed around strategic survival-based gameplay. It's called The Walking Dead: Survivors, and it would appear the game has been in the works since at least November 2020, judging by the official Facebook page. Well, as of this weekend, those in the US, Germany, and Russia can pre-register for the title in anticipation of the upcoming launch.

Even though the Play Store listing for The Walking Dead: Survivors doesn't offer a trailer, fans from testing regions have already uploaded gameplay videos, and so you can see how this game plays in the video above. The Walking Dead: Survivors is a standard kingdom builder, isometric view and all. This isn't surprising since the only other game under Galaxy Play Technology Limited's account is a generic kingdom builder. Of course, The Walking Dead: Survivors will also offer survival mechanics, and so you'll search for survivors and supplies as you build out your camp.

If the gameplay video doesn't offer a clear enough picture of what to expect from The Walking Dead: Survivors, perhaps this screenshot will. As you can see in the image above, the game is filled with timers, currencies, and all manner of buttons cluttering the screen. So there's no doubt the game will arrive as a free-to-play title, not that the release date has been revealed yet.

So there you have it. Some no-name developer/publisher has somehow secured the license for a Walking Dead game, and it looks just as bad as you would expect. Slapping a well-known brand on top of garbage is a common occurrence on the Play Store, and so the upcoming release for The Walking Dead: Survivors looks to be more of the same. San Francisco - March 16, 2021 - Global Game Publisher Elex has revealed The Walking Dead: Survivors, a brand new strategy game based on the world-famous IP The Walking Dead. Coming to iOS and Android, The Walking Dead: Survivors is a unique survival game that brings back fan-favorite characters from the Skybound/Image comics and allows players to use these characters to build their town to fend off other players and hordes of walkers.

Survivors are the main characters of The Walking Dead: Survivors. Each has their own attributes and skill set and are broken down by "Combat" and "Development”. Combat Survivors are responsible for taking part in battles and Development Survivors improving all facets of a town to ensure it’s fully protected. Survivors originate from the comic and this title brings over their likeness, including prominent characters such as Rick, Maya, Vayne, Glenn, Dwight, and many more.

Players will be tasked with building their best town and armies through assigning tasks, building strategic battle plans, building and expanding their bases by exploring new territories. Players must think carefully about the strategy such as what buildings they construct, how they fortify their fences from hordes of walkers and players, which characters they promote in battle, and how they progress their character abilities.

In The Walking Dead: Survivors, there are three types of Fighters: Melee, Sharpshooters, and Cavalry. Each category has ten tiers to upgrade to, which makes every fighter stronger along the way. All Combat Survivors can be trained and promoted to positions of power, making strategy the most important aspect of battle.

Survival in TWD Universe - Encounter iconic IP characters like Rick, Michonne, and Glenn. Live through classic moments and visit fan favourite locations within the world. Build up your camp, recruit your team, and grow your reputation as a leader.

Community Management - Tasks are vital to maintaining your camp and crucial for survival. Gather supplies, farm, train, explore, fight enemies, recruit new heroes, and tend to your group’s medical needs. Each survivor has unique attributes and skills specific to certain tasks. As a camp leader, it’s your job to assign the right survivors to the proper tasks.

Settlement Siege - Your camp is in constant threats of walker hordes, so you’ll have to build up your defences accordingly. Strengthen your walls, place obstacles, set up the survivors' formation, and trigger the survivors’ skills strategically to protect your settlement from the walker horde and the outlaw survivors!

Clans – Walkers were just the initial threat, but Negan and his gang of Saviours are the real threat! Team up with other players to form Clans. Build various clan buildings across the region to gain more territories and strengthen your forces to defeat Negan!

Exploration – Exploring the area around your settlement is the key to unlocking new locations, characters, items, resources, and even learning more about the world. Where to explore? Who to send? What to do once you get there? These are choices that you will have to make as the leader.

The Walking Dead: Survivors is available for pre-registration on iOS in the US and UK as well as Android in the US. It will launch Summer 2021.

The Walking Dead: Survivors finally has an official release date

Last month we learned that The Walking Dead: Survivors would be coming to Android, and so the publisher went out of its way to announce that the game would be arriving sometime this summer. Well, as of today, we have learned that the game will be arriving on April 12th, which is clearly not a summer month, but it does mean the official launch is only a week away.

If you're interested in what the game will offer, today's press announcement lists out a few of the game's key features.

More or less, the game sounds like any other free-to-play survival title, which is probably why the publisher has yet to mention how The Walking Dead: Survivors will be monetized. The Walking Dead: Survivors now available on Android

As promised, today is release day, and so as of this morning, everyone can grab the free install for The Walking Dead: Survivors. Generally, branded games from no-name developers are created as cash grabs, and The Walking Dead: Survivors is no different. The game itself plays like a tower defense title, with a bunch of grindy mechanics tacked on, such as town-building and the constant push to hunt for survivors. So yes, a bunch of survival mechanics are in the mix, which is precisely what slows the game's progression to a crawl, which you can alleviate with the many in-app purchases included. So if you hate wait-timers, pointless currencies, and gameplay that requires zero skill, then you're not going to enjoy The Walking Dead: Survivors.
