Android 10 is finally here to save us from blindingly bright apps, but only a few apps have support for the new dark theme. Instagram might be one of them soon, though. Several tipsters say they've seen Instagram flip over to a dark mode in Android 10, but you probably won't have this feature on your device yet.

Instagram's interface is overwhelmingly white and has been since time immemorial. Several readers on alpha builds (like v114.0.0.0.24) now report that the app automatically adopts a black and grey interface on Android 10 when you enable the system dark theme. You can see an example above.

I have the Instagram beta on my Pixel, and I didn't get the dark theme. However, we may be looking at the beginning of a large-scale test judging by the number of tips. If you want to give it a shot, the Instagram alpha is available here. We also have the necessary build on APK Mirror.

Older versions, too

It looks like the Instagram dark theme is not limited to Android 10. Those with Samsung phones report that you can also get the dark theme in One UI's night mode, and that's still Android 9 Pie. However, there's a bug that hides the status bar icons.

We've got the necessary APK available for download, but it's unclear which devices can trigger dark mode.
