Vivo's new NEX 3 series is now official. While it doesn't come with the crazy 120W charging previously expected, it does go for a buttonless design and "waterfall" curved display with no notch or bezel. What we presume to be the flagship of the series also gets 5G support.

Physically, the NEX 3 5G is almost all screen, with widely curved edges tapering to a buttonless frame and a glass back. Instead of those buttons, it has something called "Touch Sense" for touch-sensitive controls alleged to provide haptic feedback similar to a real button.

Spec-wise, you're looking at the new Snapdragon 855 Plus, paired with either 8 or 12GB of RAM and 256GB of fast UFS 3.0 storage. The OLED screen has a strongly curved radius, sure to be a polarizing feature, paired with a lower 1080p-equivalent resolution for the large 6.89" size. It can reach 800 nits of brightness, with 100% P3 wide color coverage and an "anti-flicker" feature for lower brightness modes.

When it comes to the cameras, you get a 64MP primary and two 13MP for wide-angle and telephoto duty. Vivo also touts improved HDR performance and macro functionality. There's also a pop-out front-facing 16MP camera.

When it comes to connectivity, the NEX 3 5G features an "upgraded antenna design" for 5G-optimized performance, powered by Qualcomm's hardware. For those that can't take advantage of that extra speed, it will also have dual WLAN support for simultaneous connections, all powered by a biggish 4500mAh battery, and cooled by a vapor chamber. It also supports Bluetooth 5, "global frequency bands" and NFC. Improved haptics and a pile of AI features and improvements round out the list.

Vivo also wants to make it clear that, although the NEX 3 Series is only 5G compatible, the company is already gearing up for "the more challenging and unknown field of 6G," because the only thing more compelling than preparing for something that doesn't even exist is marketing that you're doing it.

Availability is set for "the coming months" in Asia Pacific, Southeast Asia, and other markets — almost certainly not to include the US. For more details, check out the full press release after the break.
