Meanwhile, the Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39" 1440p display; the notch here is wider to facilitate what Huawei calls 3D Face Unlock, which uses infrared dots to scan and authenticate your face to unlock the device. It's also got a fingerprint sensor built into the display for times when looking head-on at the device isn't practical. Its rear cameras are a considerable upgrade over the non-Pro version, clocking in at 40, 20, and 8 megapixels. Like the Mate 20, the Pro comes with 128 gigs of storage standard — also expandable via the new Nano memory cards.

Additionally, the Pro has proper IP68 water resistance, 15-watt wireless charging, and crazy-fast 40-watt wired charging that Huawei claims will take the device's huge 4,200 mAh battery from zero to 70 percent in half an hour. The phone will be available in the same regions as the Mate 20, starting at €1,049.

While both new devices are pricey, they're also compelling, bringing some interesting features to the table. The Pro in particular, with its wicked fast charging and 40-megapixel primary shooter, seems worthy of gadget thirst.

There were some less exciting announcements as well, like the the Mate 20 RS, a souped-up version of the Mate 20 Pro designed in conjunction with Porsche Design that sports leather accents and an absolutely silly €1,695 starting price, and the Huawei Watch GT and Huawei Band 3 Pro, a pair of fitness-focused wearable devices (neither of which run Wear OS).
