Asphalt is one of the most popular racing franchises on mobile devices, and Gameloft is preparing to release a new installment. Asphalt 9: Legends will drop on Android soon with tons of licensed cars, flashy graphics, and (inevitably) more in-app purchases than you can shake a gear shifter at.

Gameloft says it's pumped up the graphics this time around with both HDR and more realistic physics. Well, maybe "realistic" isn't the right word. Asphalt games fall clearly on the "arcade" end of the racing spectrum, so let's just say the physics engine is more powerful. The game still has the stunt mechanics of past installments, along with a new "Touchdrive" control scheme.

Asphalt 9: Legends is already listed in the Play Store—it actually soft-launched in the Philippines several weeks ago. Now, Gameloft says the global release is coming "soon." That's as much detail as we're getting, it seems. Gameloft will be on hand at E3 later this month with a demo of the new game. In the meantime, you can begin saving up for all those in-app purchases. They range from $0.99 to $99.99. Isn't mobile gaming great?
