HMD Global has announced that the new Nokia 6.1 is available in the U.S. starting on May 6. Yes, you read that name correctly; instead of going with the more traditional "Nokia 6 2018" (as it was formerly known), HMD opted for the point release moniker. Despite this oddity, this phone packs a great value, coming at $269 for some nice specs.

Be sure to check out our hands-on of the phone back at MWC, but here's a quick refresher. It features a 5.5" FHD IPS LCD, a Snapdragon 630 SoC, 32GB of storage (expandable via microSD), 3GB of RAM, Zeiss-optimized 16MP rear/8MP front cameras, (a partnership similar to Huawei and Leica), USB-C fast charging, face unlock, and Oreo thanks to Android One. It also sports a solid 6000-series aluminium body and pretty spectacular design. HMD also points out that the Nokia 6.1 comes with "Nokia spatial audio," which supposedly allows for dynamic surround sound capture during video recording.

Now, we've already seen this phone before. It popped up on Amazon and Walmart back in April, following the MWC announcement that it would launch in early May. So the odd "Nokia 6.1" name that we saw in April was actually correct. Who could ever have guessed that?

According to HMD, the U.S. Nokia 6.1 comes in a sexy black/copper and it will be available at Best Buy and Amazon for $269. It looks like a promising phone, so we'll have to see how well it performs.

We've updated this article to reflect the fact that the Nokia 6.1 was already for sale, but now it's officially available in the U.S. We also pointed to the relevant previous posts.

It looks like some Best Buy stores already have local pickup available for the Nokia 6.1. Make sure you check before purchasing, because only one store in my entire state has pickup available today; the rest all say Tuesday, May 8.
