Alpine is on hand at CES to roll out yet another Android Auto head unit, but this one might be more appealing to those with limited dash space. The iLX-F309 has a big 9-inch LCD, but it doesn't need that much space available in your dash thanks to a wacky floating design. Yes, the image above shows CarPlay, but just pretend it's Android Auto.

The iLX-F309 uses a single DIN slot, so many more vehicles can accommodate it. The display attaches to the dash and floats out in front of the main chassis. This allows you to have a big 9-inch display without custom installation work. However, the screen is only WVGA (800x480) resolution.

It supports both CarPlay and Android Auto, but one thing you won't find is a disc slot. Alpine had to ditch the legacy hardware to make this floating design a reality. I suspect most people will be fine with that. There's no reason you can't keep tracks on your phone these days. Alpine will launch the iLX-F309 next month with a retail price of $1,100.
