Smart appliances are pretty neat, when they're not being used as a botnet to take down the internet. To make matters worse, you usually have to use another app to control everything. But starting later this year, LG's smart home appliances will start working with Google Assistant and Alexa.

At IFA in Berlin, LG announced Google Assistant and Alexa would soon be compatible with "all of LG smart home devices." You'll be able to use voice commands to check the remaining time on a wash cycle or tell the refrigerator to make more ice (don't they do that by themselves?). No timeline was announced by LG, but Google's post mentions that Google Assistant support is coming later this year.

I still prefer non-hackable kitchen appliances, but let us know in the comments if you would buy smart appliances that worked with Google Assistant or Alexa.
