Fun fact: Spanish has more native speakers globally than English, trailing only behind Mandarin in this regard. Given the popularity of services such as Netflix and Hulu, it only makes sense that a Spanish-language movie streaming service would exist as well. Now, Lionsgate has introduced a new service called Pantaya, which will enable US residents to watch hundreds of Spanish-language movies for $5.99 per month.
Fittingly, the name 'Pantaya' comes from the pronunciation of the Spanish word 'pantalla,' which means 'screen.' The service will reportedly feature "the largest, most current, and most diverse selection of Spanish-language blockbusters and critically acclaimed films from Latin America and Hollywood," with many of them being exclusive to Pantaya. Considering Hemisphere Media's grasp of Spanish-language content, as well as Lionsgate's obvious reputation with films, this seems like it could be something good.
Content will include new releases, classics, documentaries, concerts, and more, as well as 16,000 Lionsgate movies dubbed in Spanish. Pantaya will also offer "day-and-date" monthly films, which means that movies that debut in Latin America will be available on Pantaya the same day. Plus, subscribers will get exclusive monthly first run access to recent releases.
Pantaya will cost $5.99 per month (with a free seven-day trial), and it's only available in the United States. It can be used on Android, the web, iOS, Roku, and Amazon Channels for Prime users.
