Huawei has made some great hardware, but the software is another story. The EMUI Android skin has been consistently sluggish, confusing, and redundant. Huawei has been promising a big redesign in EMUI 5.0, and now users of the Honor 8 have a shot at trying it out. You have to apply for inclusion in the beta test, and you can do so (oddly) at XDA.

According to XDA, there are 55 slots for owners of the FRD-L04 version of the Honor 8 and 10 slots for owners of the FRD-L02 variant. If you want in, there's a Google Form to fill out. The only contact information you need is an XDA user name, so presumably you'll be contacted on XDA if you are selected. It is unclear what the criteria will be to choose testers.

The EMUI 5.0 update is said to include a simpler UI, improved performance, and better security features. And I do believe that's an app drawer in the hero image. This update will be based on Nougat, so that means plenty of core Android improvements too.
